EXPERIENCE

Engineer

May 2005 – August 2005

Whiteside Biomechanics, St Louis, MO

  • Mastered and utilized ProEngineer Wildfire, a computer aided drafting program, to design and analyze orthopaedic implants

  • Designed and manufactured a knee wear simulator mechanism for Instron materials testing machines to test total knee replacements

  • Researched, designed and built a device for Instron materials testing machines to test the wear on polyethylene acetabular liners under cyclic loading

RESEARCH

Orthopaedic Residency Research Program, Emory Orthopaedic and Spine Center

July 2009 – July 2014

  • Developed and completed a study utilizing a materials testing machine to examine fatigue properties after contouring of pelvic reconstruction plates

  • Developed and completed a study that analyzed the biomechanical properties of proximal humeral locking plates with and without suture augmentation of the rotator cuff

  • Developed and acquired data for a survey regarding attending Orthopaedic sports surgeon call responsibilities

Consensus Statement, Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute

May 2008 – May 2009

  • Worked under Dr. William T. Obremskey to review the literature and create a consensus statement regarding the type, timing and duration of antibiotic use in open fractures.

  • Primary author on paper outlining a prospective cohort trial of delayed open reduction internal fixation versus external fixation of pilon fractures

Emphasis Program, Vanderbilt Medical School

May 2006 – May 2007

Whiteside Biomechanics, St Louis, MO

  • Worked closely with Dr. Leo Whiteside to research the properties of diamond like carbon, a novel joint replacement bearing surface, for patent submission

  • Researched, designed, built and used a device to measure the contact angles that fluids make with the femoral head components of total hip replacements for assessment of their wettability

  • Researched, designed and built an apparatus that incorporated the rolling and translation motions that total knee replacements are subjected to in vivo under physiologic loads

  • Helped to setup and run cadaverous ligament balancing courses
