Mid-Atlantic, Middle Colonies Geography, Climate and Natural Resources The colonies located in the mid-Atlantic of North America had coastal lowlands that were very fertile and rich land for farming of wheat and grain as well as raising livestock. The moderate climate also allowed for a longer season to farm. The middle colonies had deep harbors with wide rivers and bays which allowed for fishing and the development of port cities and market towns to arise.
