The Acadiana Amateur Radio Association with support of the Pugh Family Foundation developed the Ham Radio Station Exhibit in 2006. The CMA seeks funding to purchase 50 radios for “check out” and/or purchase by Title I 6^th thru 8^th grade students from Paul Breaux and N.P. Moss and adults enrolled in spring and fall amateur ham radio licensing courses. This program educates children and adults from all socioeconomic backgrounds in ham radio principles with continued radio availability. Funding for scientific and technological upgrades is crucial to maintain the exhibit, one of the finest ham radio stations in the south.

Brief Summary of the proposed project (100 words or less).

The Acadiana Amateur Radio Association with support of the Pugh Family Foundation developed the Ham Radio Station Exhibit in 2006. The CMA seeks funding to purchase 50 radios for “check out” and/or purchase by Title I 6^th thru 8^th grade students from Paul Breaux and N.P. Moss and adults enrolled in spring and fall amateur ham radio licensing courses. This program educates children and adults from all socioeconomic backgrounds in ham radio principles with continued radio availability. Funding for scientific and technological upgrades is crucial to maintain the exhibit, one of the finest ham radio stations in the south. (99 words)

A spring and fall session of the amateur ham radio licensing course will be offered in calendar year 2011.

Two (2) amateur ham radio licensing courses will be conducted annually in the spring and fall providing children and adults the opportunity to obtain their amateur ham radio technician license. A major point of interest of the CMA is having sufficient radios available to all students, whether for check-out and/or purchase. The effectiveness of the course will be determined by the number of children and adults successfully passing the amateur ham radio licensing exam. Course evaluation forms will be available to students for completion.

The amateur ham radio licensing course will be offered twice annually to Title I school students from Paul Breaux and N.P. Moss, home school students, and the general public with individuals ages 10 and up, with anticipated enrollment of 25 students per session. In most instances, school credit is awarded upon completion of the course. Participants receive instructions enabling them to earn a Technician-level license in ham radio. Parents and their children are encouraged to enroll and earn their Technician’s license together.

There are no other similar organizations in this area.

The Acadiana Amateur Radio Association not only participated in the initial development of the ham radio exhibit, but oversees the eight-week ham radio licensing course to individuals ages 10 and up. Additionally, the AARA assists in radio maintenance and repair. Program materials including curriculum plans, orientation, testing and evaluation will be developed in conjunction with teachers from Paul Breaux and N.P. Moss.

Fees. A part of the budget is a one time cost to help create the curriculum. The long term plan is to use fees derived from the purchase of ham radios will be applied to the purchase of additional ham radios and the the CMA continually seeks funding through various grant avenues where appropriate to its mission and programs.

The CMA Board of Directors has been in complete support of the Ham Radio Station Exhibit since its inception.

At this time we are seeking for one year.

Partial funding will not allow for the purchase of radios, development of program materials and upgrades to the scientific and technological components of the exhibit and program.
