1. Framing your research topic

a. Problems with Smartphone Addiction

   As it is very portable, it can be used anywhere so some students use it in class at school and this might distract them from the task at hand or from listening to what their teachers are saying.

   Students could be addicted to using their smartphones at home and owing to this distraction, they might not be to revise or do homework.

   Limit the Wi-Fi usage in school so if they want to use Internet, it will be expensive and power-consuming to use 3G to browse the Internet.

   Have an administration code provided by the teacher to eable them to have extended Wi-Fi usage if it is necessary in lessons.

   Notify the parents of the students to monitor their childrens smartphone usage at home and make sure they are not using it so much.
   

a. This solution will be difficult to implement as the whole Wi-Fi system will have to be changed to limit their usage.

b. This solution will be slightly easier than the 1^st one as an administration code just has to be provided for the students to use W-Fi.

c. This solution is the easiest solution to implement as the parents just have to be notified through any form of communication (e-mail, text messages or during any of the Parent Teacher Meetings).

a. I chose this topic as smartphone addiction is a major issue that

is happening in today’s society. Many people are affected by smartphone addiction and it can cause many problems.
b. This topic enables me to fulfil the requirements of the project task as it is interesting and it will impact the society about smartphone addiction and what needs to be done to stop it.
c. This topic benefits society by showing them the effects of smartphone addiction and how to prevent it from happening to them.
3. Feasibility of my topic

a. There is a need for my project as we live in a modern world and everything we need can be just a click away with smartphones. Thus, people, namely students, are getting addicted to their smartphones.

b. It will be possible as it will be easy to merely survey the Year 3s and 4s of Raffles Institution to get their opinion on smartphone addiction and whether they experience it.

c. Yes, it is.

d. This topic probably had many exposure in schools like RI, where most of it is studies-based; so as to provide opportunities for discussion of this topic.
4. Manageability of the project

a. The different tasks will be divided equally amongst all the group members and we will keep in touch to discuss via online chat or text messaging. We will use the weekly RE period to catch up and see what has been done as well as to assign new tasks to each other.

b. Essentially, group will be needed to do things like mass researching, discussing and of course, planning the survey for completion.

c. I think that we will face several problems along the way, like time constraints and the diasbility of only being able to meet up once a week due to our busy schedules, but I think that most of these can be overcome and we will still be able to submit a piece of work of good quality.

a. Almost any format of information will be relevant to our research; newspapers, online research papers, books will all be relevant to the topic as the topic needs quite wide research to verify facts and to ensure that perspective of all types is given.

b. Most of the sources will be secondary, with the exception of the survey, which is primary because we are getting the direct opinion of the people.

c/d. We have anticipated problems like unresponsive people who give useless answers to the survey and have considered that it might also be possible to obtain our answers from other sources as this research has been done before.
