Acer Classroom Manager:
Managing the digital classroom with ease
Manno, November 2010 – Simplicity. This is the key word of the innovative classroom management software that Acer preloads on its products dedicated to the Education segment. With Acer Classroom Manager, teachers can instruct, monitor and interact with students individually, in groups or with the whole class. All of this in an easy and intuitive way.
As it clearly emerged from the evaluation report of the experimental phase of the Acer-EUN project, the need for software that simplifies classroom management arises from the teachers’ prerequisite of being in control of the class during the lesson.
According to the report’s highlights, in fact, a major concern among teachers is that PCs could be a source of distraction for students, diverting their attention away from educational activities.
Acer Classroom Manger is the real answer to this need. Thanks to this innovative software, the teacher can perform advanced monitoring and management of the classroom computers, such as darkening the students’ screens or locking their mice and keyboards when they are introducing new topics.
ACM software complements a series of devices (netbook, interactive whiteboard, personal computer and projector) that Acer has developed to provide a single, integrated solution for schools. Teachers will be able to interact within the same environment in a simple and intuitive way, focusing on teaching rather than on managing the various technological devices.
Rich in features, this software leaves nothing to chance and specifically takes into account the individual needs of teachers, students and technical staff.
For teachers, ACM will be a valuable tool to improve teaching, capture students’ attention, encourage ongoing evaluation of students and reduce their own workload. Teachers have to hand an innovative tool for creating customized tests and exams in an extremely easy way, with the possibility of including text, images, sounds and video. Automatic creation of lesson plans, printer management, instant messaging control, monitoring and protecting the desktops are also available and are made easy thanks to the intuitive icons and controls.
What’s more, Acer Classroom Manager includes multimedia tools for teaching languages without any need for specialized equipment. Even technical support is covered, courtesy of a suite of tools specifically designed for computer technicians and network administrators, enabling the efficient management of all technology applications and provision of support to the teacher.
ACM promotes high standards in teaching methodologies and adopts advanced information technology to achieve even better results.
Power On and Log On Computers
Power on and log in all of the computers in the classroom with one click to save valuable time at the beginning of the lesson. At the end of the day, log out and power off all of the computers in the classroom in the same way.
Record Student Attendance
Keep an accurate record of attendance and a history of student Internet, application, instant messenger and keyboard activity during the lesson.
Keep Students on Task and Avoid Distractions
Stop students from being distracted whilst you teach them and keep them on task by restricting access to certain websites and applications. If necessary, stop students from using their computers altogether using the Lock Mouse and Keyboard feature.
Launch Applications and Websites for Students
Save time by launching applications or websites simultaneously on all student desktops. You can also provide students with shortcuts to all of the documents, folders, applications and web content they may require during the lesson, using the Student Information bar.
Monitor in Real-time all Student Activity
See what students are doing by using the intuitive thumbnail views of each student computer. Screenshots of a student's desktop can be captured to record their progress or highlight something that they should not be doing.
Show Students your Desktop, a video or an application
Demonstrate to students by showing them your screen or a video - or highlight another student’s work by showing their screen to the rest of the class.
Easily Share Content with Students
Simply drag and drop files or folders to the student's desktop or document libraries. Alternatively, hand out and collect student work with each student’s completed work being organised in their own individual folder.
Drive Down Costs by Managing and Controlling Printer Access
Save money and free up printing resources by controlling and monitoring printer usage; set thresholds and prevent students from sending duplicate copies to the printer.
Effectively Communicate with Students
Send students a message, chat with them discreetly or collaborate as a group. Students can also request help from the Tutor without alerting the rest of the class.
Plan Lessons and Provide Effective End of Lesson Review
Plan lesson activities and provide students with a personalized journal summarizing the lesson’s subject matter for future reference.
Questions and Assess Students
Test students’ comprehension and understanding using a range of audio, visual and text-based questions. Tests are auto marked and the results can be displayed to students. Alternatively, use student surveys for instant feedback.
Available in different languages and running only on Acer Group products, Acer Classroom Manager software (powered by NetSupport) will be available on all Acer Education websites (www.acer.com\education) with a 30-day trial version. After testing it, the teachers and educators can activate the software free of charge simply by entering their details into the registration form on the site.
"Technology must be a means to streamline operations and processes. In schools this is even more important," explains Emanuele Accolla, Acer EMEA Vice President for Business Educational. "We are working to put technology at the disposal of content, because in our opinion [it] is not men who have to adapt to technology, but technology to human beings."
Acer Classroom Manager has the potential to revolutionize the approach to teaching in schools: classroom management with total simplicity.
