ENERGY ISOLATION

Introduction

Energy Isolation is the process of establishing a secure break in the energy supply to ensure that inadvertent reconnection is not possible.

Effective energy isolation ensures that equipment remains safely isolated for the duration of any work activity and prevents accidental re-pressuring or re-energizing of equipment before personnel have ceased work and equipment integrity has been restored.

ENERGY ISOLATION

Introduction

Oil & gas facilities and installations involve the processing of hazardous substances (flammable and/or toxic) often at high temperatures and/or pressures. The release of hazardous substances due to inadequate process isolation may lead to:

  • Local immediate effects to people & environment;
  • Escalation of an initial release causing wider damage to plant and other systems.
