New York City has officially designated Fifth Avenue from 82nd to 105th streets "Museum Mile" because of the vast richness and cultural diversity of the nine museums found there. Scroll down the mile to see participating members of the Museum Mile Association.

  Central Park Summerstage Free!
  Throughout the summer, there are frequent concerts at the Central Park Summerstage, located at Rumsey Playfield. There are a few concerts which serve as benefits for the series, as well as a couple that ask for a donation, but many of the summer's performances are completely free!

  NBC's Today Show Summer Concerts Free!
  On Friday mornings from April through July (and occassionally on Tuesdays) catch some great performers at Rockefeller Center and even get a chance to be seen on TV! 2005 performers include Neil Diamond, Reba Mcentire and the Backstreet Boys.

  GMA's Summer Concerts Free!
  On Friday mornings from May through August, be a part of Good Morning America's audience in Bryant Park and see popular acts, including Clay Aiken, Santana, Missy Elliot and Jessica Simpson. It'll be an early morning -- you should plan to arrive at Bryant Park no later than 6 a.m. and probably earlier for the most popular acts.

  New York Philharmonic in the Parks Free!
  From July 12-19, 2005 two distinct programs will be performed, at different parks in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, the Bronx and Staten Island.

  Metropolitan Opera in the Parks Free!
  From June 14-25, 2005 the Metropolitan Opera will perform Tosca and Samson et Dalila in parks in the five boroughs and New Jersey.

  River To River Festival
  From May to September, and from Battery Park to City Hall, the Downtown NYC River to River Festival features a variety of musical performances, as well as movies, readings and other cultural activities.

  World Financial Center Concerts Free!
  Frequent free concerts throughout June, July, August and Early September at a variety of downtown locations, including Castle Clinton, WFC, Rockefeller Park, and Wagner Park. This summer's highlights include Clem Snide, John Hammond, Yo La Tengo, Callexico, the Fiery Furnaces, McCoy Tyner and Garth Hudson.

  Throughout the summer, catch your favorite artists on tour at the Jones Beach Amphitheater.

  Naumburg Orchestral Concerts 2005 Free!
  The oldest free outdoor concert series in the United States, the Naumburg series is celebrating its 100th year, and features symphonic and semi-classical music on Sunday, June 19, and Tuesdays July 12 & 26, and August 9. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m..

  The 39th Season of this Lincoln Center series dedicated to the works of Mozart continues throughout the months of July & August.

  Lincoln Center Festival
  Ballet, music, dance, and more are featured throughout the festival which runs from July 12-24, 2005. There are even a few free events.

  From June 13-25, 2005 the JVC Jazz Festival will be in New York City. There are free events, as well as a series of shows at popular venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Village Vanguard and Bluebird.

  From August 16-27, 2004 enjoy this new series at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Some performances require tickets ($25-40), but many are free, with tickets being distributed on the day of the performance at the Delacorte Theater from 1-3 p.m. (2 tickets per person).

  Free concerts on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at El Museo del Barrio, on Fifth Avenue at 104th St.
