This half term the children will be working with coaches from Flixton Girls School to learn skills in tennis.
P.S.H.E Our topic this half term is ’Dear Diary’, where we will be looking at how to identify our problems and think about who best to turn to for advice. We will also look at who we have in our community that can help us in different ways.
R.E
In R.E, our topic is ‘Jesus: The man who changed lives’. This will centre around the key Christian Values of, Forgiveness, Humility and Service. The unit aims to develop the children’s familiarity of Bible stories and explore their impact on the Christian faith.
Music
This term we will be looking at R’n’B music. We will practise singing in tune and using a range of instruments to accompany the songs.
Design Technology
We will be exploring how to make bread. We will taste and evaluate a range of breads and have a go at making bread using fresh yeast and understand how kneading and proving techniques help bread to take its shape and rise.
This half term the children will be learning tennis with the help of coaches from Flixton Girls school. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to learn quality skills and game techniques.
Our swimming lessons will continue for part of this term, however the pool will be closed for school sessions for most of May so please look out for letters regarding swimming dates.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
ENGLISH
This half term we will be developing our creative writing through retelling stories and inventing our own characters and plots.
We will use visual media, including some short Pixar films to inspire our writing. We will explore how we describe the main characters and how we share emotions and feelings with the reader. Our main foci will be sentence openers and sentence construction; we will develop the use of clauses to create complex and mature sentences.
COMPUTING
We will be continuing to develop our programming skills using SCRATCH. We will be giving programmes simple instructions to create games based on points and timers.
SPANISH
This half term we will be building on our vocabulary in Spanish with the help of our Spanish language assistant, Pedro.

Mathematics
Science
Our topic this half term is all about plants and what they need to survive and grow well. We will be looking in detail at the different parts of plants and exploring the roles they play in helping the plant to grow. We will be planting a range of seeds of our own to investigate germination in differing environments.
History
Our main topic this half term is Ancient Egypt. We will look at why this powerful civilisation chose to settle on the great River Nile, and how this river was so important to them and their culture. We will look at the Gods and Goddesses worshiped by the Ancient Egyptians as well as exploring their way of life and how they are still remembered today. Using a range of sources we will follow in the steps of Lord Carnarvon as he took his first steps inside a pyramid.
