Rescue Diver Course

Challenging and rewarding best describes the PADI Rescue Diver course. This course will expand your knowledge and experience beyond the Advanced Open Water Level. Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is challenging, it is a rewarding way to build your confidence. Through classroom sessions and open water rescue scenarios, Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies.

Emergency First Response Courses

DSAT Tec Deep Diver

Dare to go deeper than recreational dive limits! Great deep wreck dives await you if you are a technical diver. Through extensive independent study, knowledge development sessions, and challenging open water training, you will gain the knowledge and skills required for technical diving as well as learn the hazards and risks. You must be 18 years old, a certified Rescue Diver, Enriched Air Diver, Deep Diver, and have logged at least 100 dives.

DSAT Apprentice Tec Diver

This course is intended for those divers who do not yet have the prerequisite experience and training needed to move into technical deep diving, but who wish to begin developing the skills and knowledge involved. This course sets the foundation for the Tec Deep Diver Course. You must be 18 years old, a certified Advanced Open Water Diver, Enriched Air Diver, Deep Diver, and have logged at least 50 dives.

If you’re just curious about technical diving, this course allows you to try the equipment and some of the procedures. Training in the Discover Tec Experience may be credited toward the Tec Deep Diver Course. You must be 18 years old, a certified Open Water Diver, and have logged at least 10 dives.

Divers Alert Network (DAN) is a non-profit medical and research organization dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers and associated with Duke University Medical Center. DAN helps divers in need with medical emergency assistance and promotes diving safety through research, education, products and services.

	Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries As a recreational diver, you can receive training to provide vital first aid that can make a difference to a scuba diver with decompression illness. The DAN Oxygen Provider Course provides entry-level training in the recognition and management of possible diving-related injuries using emergency oxygen first aid.
	Oxygen First Aid for Aquatic Emergencies This course trains non-divers and professional rescuers (such as lifeguards) to recognize near-drowning / submersion incidents and other aquatic medical emergencies and to provide basic life support including the use of oxygen first aid.
	Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries This advanced-level program is designed to train existing DAN Oxygen Providers to use the MTV-100 or a Bag Valve Mask while providing care for a non-breathing injured diver.
	First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries Serious hazardous marine life injuries are rare, but most divers experience minor discomfort from unintentional encounters with fire coral, jellyfish and other marine creatures. This course teaches divers to minimize these injuries and reduce diver discomfort and pain.
	Automated External Defibrillators for Scuba Diving More than 10 percent of all dive fatalities are actually caused by cardiovascular disease, according to DAN dive accident and fatality statistics. This course teaches divers and other interested parties to provide care for sudden cardiac arrest including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AEDs).
	Automated External Defibrillators for Aquatic Emergencies When a person drowns, they may or may not inhale water. They normally enter cardiac arrest because of the inability to breathe. This course teaches interested parties to provide care for cardiac arrest by using an automated external defibrillator (AED).
	Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals The remote nature of dive accidents, whether a few hours from shore or days from civilization, frequently requires more advanced levels of care than are offered by traditional or entry-level CPR programs.
	Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2™) The DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2™) system module supplements the DAN Oxygen First Aid in Scuba Diving Injuries course. Based on medical closed-circuit oxygen rebreather technology, the REMO2™ device provides injured divers with high concentrations of emergency oxygen for extended periods. This training course instructs the Oxygen Provider in the use of DAN's new REMO2™ system.
	On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers  Learn how to conduct a neurological assessment on a potentially injured diver in this course. The information gained in this assessment can help convince a diver of the need for oxygen first aid, and help a dive physician determine the proper treatment.
	Dive Accident First Aid for Non-Divers  This program is designed for nondivers and teaches them how to recognize the warning signs of decompression illness and help provide care for a diver involved in a dive emergency.

PSI - Worldwide Training In High Pressure Cylinder Safety

Refresher courses allow previously certified inspectors (by PSI) to attend the full VCI course described above at a reduced price.  Refreshers are offered in conjunction with all VCI courses even if not advertised as such.  Refresher participants receive re-certification as Visual Cylinder Inspectors upon course completion.

OSHA and DOT require all employees who "are affected" by high-pressure cylinders to receive "function specific" training to the HAZMAT within 90 days of employment and retraining every 3 years afterward.  This 1-2 hour course covers subjects ranging from hazard awareness to legal requirements for cylinder handlers.

Businesses who operate cylinder filling stations are required by OSHA to provide training to employees operating filling equipment.  Topics include pre-fill inspection, proper techniques, system maintenance, and emergency procedures.  As fill systems vary greatly, this course is customized to specific fill stations operational procedures.  Course times vary from 1 - 3 hours.

Instructor Level Training
Divemaster Course

Your adventure into the professional levels of recreational diving begins with the PADI Divemaster program. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, you expand your dive knowledge and develop your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. During the Divemaster program, you learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study. You complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that stretch your ability to organize and solve problems. You put this knowledge into action through a series of practical training exercises. Prerequisites: Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, 20 logged dives, 18 years old. 

During the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you will build on your skill as an Emergency Responder and focus on developing your instructional abilities to teach these skills to others. The Instructor course provides you with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid) and Care for Children courses.

PADI Assistant Instructors assist with, organize and supervise knowledge development, confined water and open water activities. Assistant Instructors work with PADI Instructors to provide student divers with quality knowledge and skill development. The teaching skills you develop during classroom sessions and teaching assignments allow you to independently conduct several PADI programs. Prerequisites: PADI Divemaster, certified diver for 6 months, 60 logged dives, EFR training, medical clearance, 18 years old.

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) rating is the first Instructor level attained by dive professionals. During the Instructor Development Course (IDC), involving classroom sessions, pool and open water teaching assignments, you review PADI Standards, procedures, philosophies and teaching methods as well as hone your teaching ability, watermanship, and diving knowledge. After successfully completing a PADI Instructor Examination (IE), you introduce people to scuba diving through various PADI programs and courses. As an Open Water Scuba Instructor, you may conduct the entire range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba Diving to Divemaster (specialties require specific Specialty Instructor Rating). Prerequisites: PADI Divemaster, certified diver for 6 months, 60 logged dives, EFR training, medical clearance, 18 years old.

The Assistant Instructor Course and Open Water Scuba Instructor Course may be combined into this package. Your PADI Course Director and Staff Instructors work together to insure you have the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully complete the PADI Instructor Examination.

DSAT Tec Deep Instructor Training Course

For those serious about becoming a technical instructor, the Tec Deep Diver Instructor course is an obvious choice. The DSAT Tec Deep Diver Instructor course incorporates instructional philosophies and course goals that directly address the demanding and challenging nature of technical diving. The DSAT Tec Deep Instructor Course prepares you to conduct the Tec Deep Diver course and addresses the philosophy, organization, practical considerations, promotion and other aspects of teaching the Tec Deep Diver course. Prerequisites: PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, Enriched Air Instructor, Deep Diver Specialty Instructor, and have at least 100 logged dives.

The Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating sets you apart from other dive instructors by showing your commitment to continuing your dive training and being prepared to help others continue their training as well. To qualify as a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, you must be an Open Water Scuba Instructor with five Specialty Instructor certifications, and you must have certified at least 25 PADI Divers. 

IDC Staff Instructor Course

As a seasoned PADI Instructor, you have wisdom and experience to share with up-and-coming PADI leaders. And, you know that continuing your education never ends. As an Instructor Development Course (IDC) Staff Instructor, you help bring up the next generation of PADI Instructors while gaining in-depth instructor-trainer knowledge. Because IDC Staff Instructors are an integral part of the PADI IDC, you set the stage for moving on to Course Director as you present topics in the IDC and help shape Divemasters and Assistant Instructors into PADI Open Water Instructors. Prerequisites: Master Scuba Diver Trainer and participation in an Instructor Development Course.

Be recognized as one of the elite dive educators – PADI Master Instructor. PADI Master Instructors embody the essence of a true dive professional having demonstrated a thorough understanding of the PADI system of diver education, and put it into practice by training 150 or more PADI Divers. They are dive industry leaders who help to shape the development of future dive courses. The PADI Master Instructor rating is unique in the PADI System – it is the one rating that you do not earn through training. You earn it by exemplifying what it means to be a PADI Instructor in what you do. Requirements include: a renewed, teaching status IDC Staff Instructor, PADI Instructor for at least two years, current Emergency First Response Instructor, certified at least 150 PADI divers, possess a complete understanding of the PADI System of diver education.

Instructor Candidates will complete a Core Module that offers more information about Dan and explains how to teach DAN programs. Candidates will then complete the course module for each DAN Training Program they are interested in teaching.
