Preparing for the AdventFest

Goal:
To prepare a half day Advent Experience for families stimulating their religious imagination to become more engaged deeper understanding and appreciation of the spiritual journey through Advent.
Keep in Mind: This is to be a professional – well presented – catechetical event to raise consciousness of families to the great liturgical feast and impact in their lives.
Audience: Family – Intergenerational Experience
What do you need to know about creating an experience for an
Intergenerational audience?
Objectives:

That FORUM students spend quality time researching and reflecting on the history and liturgical dimensions of Advent in the church.

That students identify the various Advent traditions in the Church to possibly incorporate into the Advent Experience

That students work in teams for gathering and discussing alternative plans, experiences and formats to create a professional catechetical Advent experience for families.
Recommended Ideas:

Advent Stations (where families can engage in the design of advent projects)

Advent characters (in full costume) welcoming and walking around the learning space, introducing themselves – in their character

Puppet shows – skits

5-8 minute explanation of what is the meaning of Advent – skit, etc
Advent Characters:
Mary, Gabriel, John the Baptist, Isaiah, Jesus. Others to consider – Juan Diego, St. Nicholas and St. Lucia
Advent Traditions:
Advent Wreath, Advent Giving Tree, Jesse Tree, O’Antiphone House, Luminaries, Crèche, Steps – pathways through Advent
