Directions: Via the Eastern Townships Autoroute (Route A-10), take the Farnham exit; head south on Route 235 to Bedford; then head east on Route 202 to Stanbridge East. Enter the village by either Caleb Tree Road or River Street. Proceed to Stanbridge East United Church, 72 Academy Street. Situated on the Pike River, in the heart of Quebec’s wine region, Stanbridge East (population: 873) is one of Quebec’s most historic and picturesque villages. Known for its Loyalist roots, its New England-style architecture, and its laid-back charm, the village is also home to the splendid Cornell Grist Mill (1830), seat of the Missisquoi Museum since 1964. Displays at the museum celebrate over two centuries of colourful local history. Just up River Street from the museum is Hodge’s General Store, built in 1841 of the distinctive red brick so typical of this area. Other village attractions include St. James Anglican Church (1860), the United Church (1885), the former Baker Bank (which later served as a Catholic Church) (1861), and a number of other nineteenth century historic sites.
