Sections of book: 3pps Les Fetes a Souhaiter; following is full year Jan 1 - Dec 31 with a lined page for each day for entries to be made. There is a "masthead" at top of each page, and at the top corner of each page on either side of the date is the day (e.g., Friday) and the name of the day (usually the name of a saint) on presumably the church calendar. Many pages have entries, usually brief, most in ink & some in pencil; then 2 pps "Recapitulation des Epenses de L'Annee"; then follows (after a 1p calendar table) 10pps with 10 one-half page architectural type drawings of specific opera house & theatre interiors, with added information under the drawings perhaps referencing other venues; after some other misc pages, including a full page drawing of a ship, subtitled "Les Messageries Maritimes font le Tour du Monde" there is about 30pps of detailed listings under the titles, "Nos Services Sautemobiles de Livraison" & "Les rues de Paris". I found this book in New York State. Laid into it without stain to the pages are two groups of pressed flowers/ferns, one group in a plastic sleeve & the other not. I decided that they added a touch of charm, but can obviously be removed upon instruction! Very good condition with moderate wear to binding extremities. Rare. (#5005057) $180.00

Filled primarily with family stories, but also contains general interest stories. Lots of history here, and your bookseller wrote one humble entry on his grandparents for the set. The bottom of the front covers of this set have the original owners names stamped in gold. Not at all unsightly. Even compared with what you can get from the internet, this is a really fine piece of work from an era when the local parish pastor was proud -- yet usually humble -- of his education and ability to do solid research. But he normally didn't have a good secretary, or any secretary at all, thus the last 17pp of this copy were stapled upside down! Front cover pulled from top staple - and taped.
