Associated Writing Programs Conference Report Jan 30-Feb. 2 2008
After attending the annual Associated Writing Programs conference I am inspired to work more closely with literature and creative writing colleagues in furthering the literary magazine and highlighting the creative work of students and teachers at Las Positas.
I am hoping to coordinate a one-day seminar of multi-genre readings and workshops
where students and faculty can share their writing and revision techniques, discuss literary heroes and relevant contemporary writers and coordinate efforts to maintain a varied and rigorous creative writing offerings that meets the needs of the current student population as the surrounding community at large.
My personal and professional involvement with the Two-Year College Caucus has significantly engaged my association with the organization where I am emerging as a leader of teachers who are writers, and who share their expertise and experience in the creative writing field within the literature and composition and transfer-level and pre-transfer level classrooms throughout the country. In the community college, we advocate for a community of readers and writers who are sharing a diversity of experiences, and embracing a broad appreciation of the various textures and rhythms of voices—we assist one another—writers, teachers and students--- in the creation of literature and furthering of an expanding literary culture grounded in the humanity of people from all places and times.
