Viability History

10/95 Following program review, it is decided that SIGAPL will continue as a multi-service SIG.

10/96 SIGAPL Chair and Vice Chair resign. A SIGAPL Chair was appointed by the SIG Board Chair. The SIG Board is concerned about the funds and activities of the SIG. This is relayed to the appointed leadership and they are asked to develop a program plan.

1/97 The SIG Board places SIGAPL in transitional status. The SIG leaders had difficulty putting together an election slate and the Board was concerned about volunteer development and the lack of program plans. The leadership was asked to return in 1 year with a plan.

3/98 Returned to multi-service SIG status. Leaders were asked provide a review and program plan in 1 year.

2/99 SGB referred viability to SGB EC.

SGB EC requests that in 1 month, SIGAPL provide a schedule of dates for enough issues to catch up their newsletter. SIGAPL will be held to that schedule.

6/01 SGB placed in transition due to lateness of newsletters.

3/03 Removed from transition; now conference-only

3/05 Viability review postponed to 8/05

7/05 Viability postponed to 2/06 due to change in leadership

2/06 Placed in transition

2/07 SGB-EC brings forward motion to dissolve and defers it.

4/07 A sufficient number of SIGAPL members (76) challenges motion to dissolve.

7/07 SGB awaits report after conference in October and will take further action at Spring 2008 SGB meeting.

Current FY benefits

  • SIGAPL is setting a goal of delivering a regular publication (The APL Quote-Quad) to members.

  • SIGAPL is instrumental in organizing, sponsoring and publicizing an   annual series of APL conferences. The attendance fees for these conferences will be set so that the cost of joining SIGAPL is more than   offset by the difference in fees between SIGAPL members and non-members.

  • Other activities have been proposed, and volunteers have been organized to conduct these activities. SIGAPL provides support to these activities in various ways, whether they are regional conferences or workshops, distribution of news or publicity via our website or via other facilities.
