RETURNING PLAYERS: This year’s 27 man roster features 11 players that at some point during the 2012 season suited up for Somerset (Brandon Braboy, Carlton Smith, Derell McCall, Jonny Tucker, Joe Holden, Paul Phillips, Jake Fox, Adam Donachie, Dan Hennigan, Corey Smith, Yunesky Sanchez) MLB EXPERIENCE: Six players on the roster have at one point during their baseball tenure suited up for an MLB team (Mike Wilson, Lou Montanez, Jake Fox, Graham Taylor, Brad Thompson, Mitch Atkins). STRIVE FOR SIX: The Somerset Patriots are the most successful baseball club in Atlantic League history winning League Championships in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009. The Patriots look to win that elusive sixth title in program history this year. HOLDEN HOT: Joe Holden is 5-for-6 to start the young season with two walks and three stolen bases. SANCHEZ SIZZLING: Yunesky Sanchez had seven homers all of last year. He has three homers in three games thus far in 2013. NEW REGIME: On November 27th Brett Jodie was promoted to Patriots skipper as Sparky Lyle took on the role as manager emeritus. Jodie, 36 years old, attended the University of South Carolina where he was a psychology major and eventually made it to the big leagues playing for the Padres and Yankees in 2001. Jodie was a pitcher for the Patriots in 2003 and 2005. In 2006 he became the team’s pitching coach and in 2007 he added Director of Player Personnel to his responsibilities.
