A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION


TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPSTATE BASKETBALL PLAYER TY GREENE FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING NAMED 2015 LOU HENSON NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR AND 2015 ATLANTIC SUN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were pleased to learn that University of South Carolina Upstate basketball player Ty Greene has been named 2015 Lou Henson National Player of the Year and 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year; and


Whereas, the coveted Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the Mid‑Major player in Division I college basketball. The finalists for the award also represent the Lou Henson All‑America team. The award is named in honor of Coach Henson, who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted forty‑one years; and
Whereas, a six‑foot‑three senior set to graduate on May 6, 2015, Ty Greene hails from Knoxville, Tennessee, and was recruited by Coach Eddie Payne, who was himself named the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year; and
Whereas, just three years ago, Ty took home the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year award. In 2015, he helped carry his team to 24 wins, the top record in Division I history. A leader among his peers, he also served as Fellowship of Christian Athletes director (2013‑2014); and
Whereas, proud of his fine accomplishments, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in adding its collective voice to the many warm expressions of praise so well deserved by this fine young athlete. The members wish Ty much continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly recognize and honor University of South Carolina Upstate basketball player Ty Greene for his outstanding season and congratulate him on being named 2015 Lou Henson National Player of the Year and 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Ty Greene.
