Of the 18 An-140s that have flown up till now, five have been lost in various accidents and seven are known as non-flying at this moment leaving just six active aircraft. In Iran 2201 and 2202, in Russia RA-41215 and in Ukraine UR-14003/4/5/6. The strategy of building one type at various locations is not cost effective this being a political and not an economical decision. However, there is no other type where this happened to such an extent as the An-140 with the 17 flying aircraft being built at four locations being Kiev (2), Krarkiv (10), Samara (2) and Iran (4). The problems experienced in setting up these production lines at these different locations not only lead to delays, but also to huge financial losses.
