The Lost City of Atlantis

Plato, a Greek writer, first mentioned the story of Atlantis, in 360 BC, and it stuck around until this very day. Atlantis is a city that sank from natural disasters in the Mediterranean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean. In Plato’s story it states that Atlantis sunk in one day and night. No one knows where The Lost City sank exactly. As the story goes, the island was given to Poseidon’s five sets of twins. The City sank because Poseidon was angry with his people, so he decided to teach his people a lesson. He caused horrible earthquakes, giant waves, and volcano eruptions. It is said that there were no survivors. A paradise is what many people think of when they hear the name Atlantis. The island had an abundant supply of gold and silver that is now somewhere at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean which is where they got the name “Atlantis”.

While searching for Atlantis, scientists found many things that could be part of The Lost Island. A man named Edgar Cayce predicted in 1969 Athens Temple, located on Atlantis, would rise out of the water off the island of Bimini in the Bahamas. Cayce was right, in 1969, some rectangular stones, known as the Harbour Wall, rose out of the water and surfaced near Bimini. Scientist thought Harbour Wall used to be located on The Lost Island, but unfortunately scientists declared that Harbour Wall was just a natural phenomenon. Later on, in 1970 and 1977, researchers discovered blocks of stones with carved edges, which had been made by a human. Many people think these blocks came from an ancient building on Atlantis. Scientists also discovered a “J shaped road” under the water, off the coast in Bimini. This road is thought to be one of the road Atlanteans used on the island.

Atlantis was a very large island. The whole island was swallowed by the sea in one day in night. Atlantis completely disappeared and was never seen again. People believe that a large meteorite could have hit the island. In Arizona, a meteorite hit in the middle of the desert; the meteorite is believed to be around the size of Atlantis. This proves that a meteorite could have taken out Atlantis. Volcanos can also cause massive destruction to islands. The island Thera, had the middle of the island blown out after a destructive volcano erupted. Scientists believe that Atlantis could have been in the center of Thera after it disappeared under the sea.

Some theories about Atlantis are convincing to researchers, but not all. Many theories are believable, but some theories are very farfetched. The people of Atlantis also got greedy, domineering, and wanted to conquer other lands. This seems strange to me because it states in the facts, that Atlantis was huge, full of gold and silver, and everyone was living in a paradise. It is hard to believe that anyone could want more than that! Also, Plato never gave a location to where Atlantis would be located, but he seemed to know all about it. Many people including myself do not believe in this theory because Plato gave information on The Lost Island when he had never been there. The average person’s life span was believed to have been 800 years, making them a very advanced prototype of the modern day human race. This is also unbelievable because it is very rare to have a person live into their hundreds.

Atlantis, a huge island, with an abundant supply of everything a person would need, disappeared in one day and night. The people of Atlantis used to be wise, but they were not always. The Atlanteans became greedy, and Poseidon destroyed the island by causing earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and giant title waves. Ever since the story Plato had written, scientists have been searching desperately to find this paradise. Based on all of the facts and theories I have read, I do not think Atlantis is real because there are no definite facts about where it is located or any proof on if it ever existed.
