George was a farmer, and highway surveyor. It is reported that at one time he had a very painful toe, so as a remedy he cut it off with an axe. The stump of the toe still pained him considerably, and friends urged him to bury the unattached toe. He did so: this worked fine, and he had no more pain. George and Francena had 14 children, in those days of large families. Cora attended Castleton Teachers College in Castleton VT, Albany College, and received a M.A. degree from New York City University. She lived in Alabama. She remained single.
