Bill Barnes Award
The Bill Barnes Award was established in 1988. This award is presented to an individual “dedicated to the enrichment of the telephone industry’s professional knowledge for the advancement of customers ‘welfare, for his participation in honest telecommunications enterprises, to his commitment of service before profit, to public welfare above all other considerations, and for divine guidance in professional competency, initiative, leadership, mature sound judgment, and in all endeavors.”
Mr. Barnes was an executive with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and spent many years working with the Oklahoma independent telephone industry. He was lost prematurely due to a fatal heart attack. This award is named as a tribute to him and his contributions to the Oklahoma telephone industry.
