STORY SUMMARY:
The winners of the prestigious 2014 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year award were announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday, Jan. 13 at 8 a.m. Forty nine automotive journalists have selected the Cadillac CTS , the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and Mazda 3 as the three finalists for the 2014 North American Car of the Year. The finalists for the 2014 North American Truck/Utility of the Year are the Acura MDX, Chevy Silverado, and Jeep Cherokee.
The awards are unique in the United States because -- instead of being given by a single media outlet -- they are awarded by a coalition of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada representing magazines, television, radio, newspapers and web sites.
To be eligible a vehicle must be all new or substantially changed. After considering dozens of vehicles this year the jurors finally voted on twelve cars and twelve trucks.
Last year the 2013 North American Car of the Year was the Cadillac ATS and the 2013 North American Truck of the Year was the Ram 1500.
More information including the names of the jurors is available at www.northamericancaroftheyear.org
