CONTACT: media@ucsusa.org or 202-331-5420
There are currently 104 nuclear reactors operating at 65 plants across the country that provide approximately 20 percent of the nation’s electricity. Below is a summary of Energy Information Administration profiles of the 31 states with nuclear plants ranked by the amount of electricity generated. Included in each citation is name of the plant, the owner, the location, the type of reactor (boiling water reactor (BWR) or pressurized water reactor (PWR)), and the nearest metropolitan areas.
Additional detailed information about each of these plants, including the number of people living within 10 miles of each plant according to the 2000 census, can be found on UCS’s Nuclear Power Information Tracker.
