Battle of the Books Club

If you like reading and participating in trivia-style competition, then you'll love being a part of Battle of the Books! Students read from a list of books, then come to the meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 8:00 AM to practice competing in book competitions.  We'll have our big final competition in March.  There will be prizes!  Please see the school web site for more information and a 2016-2017book list.  Please email Mrs. Boggs or Mrs. Bartlett with any questions.  Hope to see you there.


Art Club -The VCMS Art Club offers more art time and a creative experience for students who have a desire to create and/or excel artistically. This club is limited to 15 students so attendance is imperative. In this more personal setting j0282786

Students will have the opportunity to work one on one with the teacher and shine with more individualized art instruction and creative guidance. This is a great time to develop better drawing, painting, and 3D skills and creative processes. This club is open to all grade levels. Meetings are held in room 525 on odd numbered Tuesday's of the month. Cost is $40 and includes all supplies and club t-shirt.

The purpose of the National Beta Club is to promote the ideals of character, service, and leadership among elementary and secondary school students, to reward meritorious achievement and to encourage and assist students in continuing their education after high school. Membership is by invitation only to 8th grade students with a 3.8 minimum GPA. Students are nominated by teachers and must demonstrate citizenship, leadership, and good character. Members must complete at least 10 hours of community service. Sponsor: Susan Sabo

Under the direction of Melissa Grizzle, the VCMS Chamber Choir is the premier performing ensemble at VCMS, providing vocally talented students with more advanced training than possible during the chorus class. All students are eligible to audition for this organization. Chamber Choir meets once or twice a week after school. There is a $25 member-ship fee to cover the cost of materials. Please listen to morning announcements for audition dates and times.



Chess Club

The VCMS Chess Club meeting days and time will be announced soon. We attempt to invite and develop new players while at the same time providing opportunities for more experienced players to grow!  Whether you wish to play for fun or competitively, -- this is the place for you!  Come “check” it out!

Drama Club gives students the chance to learn about theater through improvisation and other performance activities. Club members will have the opportunity to perform on stage or work backstage. We will rehearse and perform a fall play and a spring musical. Students who participate must be available for rehearsals before and /or after school, depending on the production schedule. There is a $30 membership fee. Drama Club sponsors is Kiril Slavov.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a non-profit, interdenominational ministry that reaches out to young athletes of the world. Their purpose is to have fun, serve others and make a positive difference. The FCA Leadership Team meets every Friday at 8:00. Students interested in being on the leadership team must complete an application. See Mrs.Crosby or one of the officers for more information. Officers: President – Josh Scharf, Vice-President – Cara Brown

All students are welcome to attend the school-wide huddle meetings that are planned by the leadership team.

Magic the Gathering Clubmagic: the gathering card back

   Magic the Gathering Club (MtG Club) will begin meeting every school day starting on August 15th in the VCMS Media Center. The meetings will begin at 8:00 am. None of the meetings are mandatory, so students may feel free to drop in on any day they are able to in the mornings. We are always open to new members who would like to learn how to play or challenge others with the greatest trading card game on the planet.

            The MtG Club is a club for students who are interested in learning to play the trading card game, as well as for those who want to hone their skills in a friendly, social environment. The club meets daily so that students can socialize and test their skills at the most strategic card game ever invented. The club’s goal is to create an environment for students to develop positive social relationships with others who share a common interest and promote good sportsmanship.

Calling all aspiring poets, novelists, and short story writers!  If you enjoy writing and would like an opportunity to share your work or improve your writing skills, join the Young Authors Club.  The Young Authors Club generally meets, after school, twice a month.   Each meeting lasts one hour.  This club is not a service club; therefore, there are no dues.  Meeting attendance is not mandatory.  The dates, time, and length of the 2016-2017 meetings will be determined during the first meeting.  The first meeting will be mentioned on the morning announcements.  We hope to see you at the first meeting!

What is the NFL Club?

We are students and teachers who come alive in September when the preseason opens for the NFL. We are students who want to be more involved and learn about the sport. We are fans forever!

What do we do in the NFL Club?

We will meet each week (day and time TBA). At our meetings we will discuss the NFL divisions and keep track of records, follow Rookies to track their progress, keep an

injured/reserved roster and predict how these injuries will affect teams. Students will be expected to gather information and history about assigned teams and present them to fellow club members. Students will learn about the conduct of fans. Students will learn basic football knowledge about scoring, penalties, and plays.

In September, we will make Super Bowl predictions which will be sealed until February. If predicted correctly, someone will win a prize.

VCMS Best Buddies Best Buddies promotes friendships between students with and without special needs.  We meet after school at VCMS, every month or 2 - our plans include getting together to share our interests, attending school events together, and helping with a school or community project. This program not only promotes friendships, but provides an opportunity for all our students to take part in a school club. Our first meeting will be in late-August - stop by a sponsor's classroom for information and an application. Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a team of students who compete against other schools throughout the Southeast. It’s a lot of work – studying topics such as anatomy or meteorology in depth … or constructing engineering projects such as the strongest bridge or the glider that can fly the longest -- but we have tons of fun, too!  Last year, for the second year in a row, we earned a third place finish…out of 120 teams!  Space is limited.  Students interested in trying out for Science Olympiad should visit fill out the online application on the school website (under the “Extracurricular” tab).  The deadline to apply is August 17th!

Swim club is an environment swimmers can meet up and enjoy the company of others. We can talk about events that are happening in club swimming, college swimming, and national meets. During the meeting this will also be a time to get homework complete due to many swimmers having a busy schedule. We will meet once a month at 8:15 in the morning. Debate Club
VCMS Debate Club: Learn effective oratorical and public policy argumentative strategies while having a blast! This club is open to grades 6-8 and meets weekly. (Day and time to be announced). Tournaments are conducted at Atlanta-area schools and are held every other month. This club is a member of the Atlanta Urban Debate League. Fees to join and specific information will be shared during open house and on the morning news. Coaches: Nicole Seymour & Joliene Price.

Enjoy running? Looking to stay in shape for winter and spring sports?

Join the Cross Country team this fall, where friends and fitness meet! Students will have the opportunity to socialize and train for 2 mile races. The 4-H Youth Development Program is a component of the UGA Extension Service.  The 4-H program is an educational program that teaches leadership, citizenship, public speaking and practical life skills. The goal is to make learning fun! More than 1,700 young people participate in Forsyth County 4-H activities.



The 4-H Program is introduced and utilized as part of the curriculum in the Forsyth County School System. There are also 4-H activities outside of school. 4-H is open to all children in 4th through 12th grades. 4-H may have begun as an agricultural/farming related club; however, today, 4-H has evolved to teach community involvement, science, ecology, technology, recycling, photography, performing arts, nutrition, violence prevention, teamwork and many other relevant topics to Forsyth County youth.

 

There is no charge to be a 4-H member. Some optional activities may have a small fee.  A local 4H agent comes to VCMS once a month to conduct the meetings and present the meeting topics.  Meetings will be held monthly in Mrs. Bennett's classroom.
