Eugène Deslaw and Avant-Garde Techniques in Documentary Film

Renowned French film historian Lubomir Hosejko is the author of the first history of Ukrainian cinematography. (Histoire du cinema ukrainien, 2001) and is a specialist on the work of Eugène Deslaw, about whom he has already published two books and is now preparing an extensive monograph based on primary research, primarily that of Deslaw’s personal archive. In his lecture, he will focus on avant-garde creative approaches, relationships with the Czech fi lm avant-garde (in particular contact with Zet Molasová), and his documentary work, using his most famous documentary fi lm Montparnasse (1929) as an example.

Petr Horký: Thor Heyerdahl for Five Years

Documentary filmmaker Petr Horký regularly met with and filmed or Heyerdahl and traveled across countries in the footsteps of the explorer’s expeditions and discoveries. He created the most comprehensive collection of personal memories of this man and today contributes to the spread of references to his work. "Thor said that at age 15 he had the feeling that he had been a failure. I’m convinced that many of us have had the same feeling. It’s interesting to see all that or had done throughout his life in an attempt to change this feeling,” said Petr Horký as an introduction to his workshop dedicated to this legendary Norwegian traveler and scientist..
