ADULT/SENIOR OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

August 2-6, 2013

WHAT: The Bitsy Grant Tennis Center (BGTC) hosts the Annual Georgia State Adult/Senior Open Tennis Championship, an all-inclusive adult tennis tournament for players ages 25-80. The tournament includes both the men’s and women’s open events as well as senior events. Players from outside of Georgia can also compete, and there is prize money in the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles. All play will be on clay courts (hard courts may be used in case of inclement weather).
WHEN: Aug. 2-6, 2013 – Georgia State Adult/Senior Open Tennis Championship

Festivities open with the Player’s Party on Friday August 2. Singles play kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 3, followed by doubles on Sunday, Aug. 4. Tournament finals take place on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

WHO: Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles Players


Divisions include Open, 25s, 30s, 35s, 40s, 45s, 50s, 55s, 60s, 65s, 70s, 75s and 80s – singles and doubles. Additional doubles divisions include: father-son, mother-daughter and 45s mixed-doubles.

KEY EVENTS
Player’s Party (August 2nd)

The Player’s Party kicks off the tournament. The party is free to players; everyone else is $20 per person and donations are welcome. Proceeds from the event benefit the USTA/GTF “Y” Program that serves over 1,200 juniors state wide at 48 YMCAs. We expect many of the players, and representatives from the “Y” Program, the Georgia Tennis Foundation, and a large gathering of Friends of Bitsy Grant members. Family Fun Festival (August 3rd to 4th)

The tournament weekend also features a Family Fun Festival to coincide with the tennis tournament on Saturday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 4. The Family Fun Festival will feature exhibitors providing delicious treats, tennis merchandise, athletic apparel, a tee ball inflatable provided by the Braves Around Town team, and more. Free tennis lessons will also be offered to young children (ages 5 to 10) on Saturday afternoon through the United States Tennis Association’s QuickStart program.

About Friends of Bitsy Grant Tennis
Friends of Bitsy Grant Tennis (FBGT) is a non-profit organization working to improve and maintain the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center (BGTC), a public park, for the benefit of current and future generations of Atlanta tennis players. The FBGT works closely with the City of Atlanta, the BGTC staff, and the expanding FBGT membership base to identify and prioritize opportunities to improve the tennis center for all who use it.

One of the premier tennis academies in the South, Universal Tennis Academy (UTA) has been training competitive junior players since 1995. UTA partner Universal Tennis Management currently manages five City of Atlanta tennis sites.
