I have not really decided what course I should like to teach. If I had my choice now I would take history or arithmetic because they are my easiest subjects. After I have taught for about five years I would like to get married to some rich man if I ever find the one I want. The rest of my life will be like others as far as I know.

Ref: A said accident occurred at the Mercer residence on Summit Street last Friday afternoon. Some neighborhood children of tender years were playing in a buggy to which a horse was attached when the horse became frightened and ran away throwing the children out and little Gage Doherty, the 13 year old son of Mrs. Jennie Doherty, was almost instantly killed, his head striking against a tree. The little son of Mr. S. W. Mercer had a leg broken and other children in the rig were more or less injured. It was a sad blow to the parents when little Gage was carried to the family residence in a dying condition. The funeral occurred Sunday from the home of Mrs. Doherty and her mother, Mrs. J. B. Daniels, and attracted one of the largest gatherings of the kind ever seen in the city. Rev. Dr. McCord officiated, speaking words of sympathy and drawing useful lessons from the sad event. Gage Doherty was born in Denver, May 13th 1883, and was the older of two sons. He was a very bright, lovable, cheerful boy, and popular with both young and old. In his studies he was an apt student; but attention was mostly drawn to him by reason of the unselfish tender care he gave to his little brother Joe, who for sometime has been an invalid. Gage was his constant companion; pushing his rolling chair and showing many other attentions that could only originate in the mind of a good affectionate brother. The entire community sympathizes with the afflicted family and regrets the accident.

Love, of this city,) was married on Sep. 25 at Iowa City. Their host of friends in Georgetown have expected the event and are prepared to extend their profuse wishes for pleasure and happiness.
The following account of the brilliant affair is taken from the Iowa City Republican dtd. 25 Sep. 1885, pg. 3: An event of great interest to one of the old families of Iowa City, and a wide circle of relatives and friends, was the marriage, last evening of Mr. John Fillius, of Georgetown, Colorado, and Miss Love Daniels, of Iowa City. The residence of the bride's mother, Mrs. J. B. Daniels, on Summit Street, was beautifully decorated, and at from 5 to 7 o'clock in the afternoon, was filled by a large number of persons both near and dear to the fair young girl who was to leave them for another sphere in life. The relatives of Miss Daniels were, alone, enough to fill the old homestead, but a few acquaintances found a most hospitable welcome. There was an air of sadness as well as happiness around the sacred event. Miss Love born and raised in Iowa City, had become entwined in the hearts of all who knew her, for the many virtues of mind and body that she possessed. Her sunshiny smiles lit up all around her, no matter where she moved, and the ripple of her laughter will long be listened for in vain in the circle that she graced. Mr. Fillius appeared as natural and as manly as ever he did amidst his far west friends, whose attachment for him has become known even here on the prairie. The only thought not entirely in his favor, among those present last evening, was that he takes from our midst one who is beloved by all who know her.
The ceremony was very impressively performed by Rev. Dr. P. P. Ingalls, assisted by Rev. Mr. Parsons, both of this city. The happy couple standing in an alcove of evergreens and flowers, cast their log together, a beautiful floral anchor overhead typifying how their fortunes have been united.
There followed a happy poem by Father Magill, hearty congratulations, a splendid repast for the guests, inspection of a large list of beautiful and costly presents, among them a handsome silver service from Mr. Fillius's mining friends in Colorado, and a rare collection of diamonds from the groom.
Mr. and Mrs. Fillius took the train for the east last night, where they will spend their honeymoon.

"Dear Paul, I enjoyed talking to you the other night and I'm glad you are interested in information about Love Daniels Fillius. She was a true glamour figure with her wealth, her jewels, and her unusual life style. She used to tell us the story of her husband's mining interests and that once after a risky stock deal they waited to learn if they were millionaires or paupers. Fortunately, they were and stayed millionaires.

I'm sorry I can't help you about where the girls or Sonny were buried. Ruth was never married. Marion was married to Ben Edwards of Chicago, so perhaps she and Sonny are buried there. As you know, Love lived in so many places, it would be hard to guess where Ruth is buried.

I certainly knew Ingalls Bradley. He was my first cousin. My mother, Helen Swisher, and his mother, Alice were sisters. Brad died four years ago, leaving a wife, Helen and two children, Graham of Rochester and Christine of Georgetown, Colorado. He was a wonderful man and had an outstanding career at Kodak.
I hope this helps you a little. Sincerely, Marion Jackson."

John Fillius, a prominent citizen of Georgetown, was born at Hudson, Ohio, Dec. 8, 1840. He was raised on a farm, and received his education at Western Reserve College, Hudson. During the late war, he was one of the many patriotic and daring Ohioans who went out to meet the rebel General John Morgan, in his famous raid through Kentucky and Ohio; but as Morgan failed to come his way, the young man lost this coveted opportunity to display his heroism, and returned home without even a sight of the chieftain. Mr. Fillius came to Colorado in 1866, arriving at Denver August 4th.
From Denver he went to Central City, where he opened and kept a bakery and family grocery until February, 1867, when he sold out and removed to Georgetown. At Georgetown he erected a building, now the court house, calling it "The Ohio Bakery", and began a business similar to that he had engaged in at Central City, which he continued with success until the spring of 1871. Mr. Fillius was a County Commissioner of Clear Creek County for a time in 1871 and 1872. In the fall of 1872, he was elected County Treasurer, which office he held two years. During the time, he engaged in mining and real estate business. In October, 1873, he purchased an interest in the American House, and kept hotel with George L. Sites, as partner, about three years. In all his previous undertakings, Mr. Fillius, had been exceedingly successful, but the hotel enterprise was proving so disastrous to him that he determined to dispose of his interest and engage in mining. Since 1876, he has given his entire attention to mining, not only for himself, but as agent for other's. He is now agent for the Northeastern Mining Company, having his office at Georgetown. He also has charge of the property of the Hercules and Roe Consolidated Silver Mining Company, and is the authorized agent for the Nyanza Mining Company. Mr. Fillius has never been a man to seek distinction or publicity, but he has always adhered firmly to his principles of Democracy, and has been an active and prominent member of his party.

The driver, 21-year old Benjamin K. Edwards, was seriously injured and was immediately taken to Michael’s hospital. Note the extensive damage to the car pictured above.
An Illinois tourist smashed into a Canadian Pacific diesel electric train Monday afternoon on the flat crossing one mil east of the airport junction on the Coutts highway. Driver of the car Benjamin K. Edwards, 21, of Evanston, IL, was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. He was the only person in the car.
Observers of the crash said that Edwards car, traveling behind two other cars, was rounding the turn coming towards the city as the train approached the crossing. The first two made it across and Edwards smashed into the side of the engine.
Terrific impact was evident as the front of the 1947 Studebaker convertible cope was almost completely collapsed and shoved back against the seat. Edwards was found with his legs pinned behind the steering column and was reported to be suffering from “profound shock”.
Hospital authorities reported Tuesday morning that the condition of the injured man was “serious.” No details of his injuries were given out.
Negligible damage was received by the train and it continued its test run to Glenwood that afternoon.
Canadian Pacific Railway officials stated that curiously enough, a similar accident happened to the other Diesel electric train now operating from Coutts to Lethbridge when it was making its first test run.

Edwards, 21, of Evanston, IL died in the hospital here late Tuesday afternoon of injuries suffered when the automobile he was driving collided with a Canadian Pacific Railway diesel electric locomotive.
Mr. Edwards, a tourist, was pinned behind the steering column of his car in the accident Monday. His car had rounded a turn behind two other cars as the diesel train on a test run approached. The first two vehicles made the crossing but Edwards’ coupe smashed into the train.
The young man’s guardian, Donovan Y. Erickson, flew from Chicago to Lethbridge Tuesday and will take the body back to Evanston with him in a chartered plane.
A jury impaneled under Coroner D. D. Fryett to inquire into the death of Mr. Edwards met Tuesday night then adjourned until Tuesday, July 27. The body was released for burial.
Speaking to the Herald, the young man’s guardian said that Mr. Edwards was a sophomore at Northwestern University at Evanston, near Chicago, and that the young man had been given permission to holiday in Canada as he was about to be drafted into the U. S. Army.
