Abbott, 65, special delivery messenger, of the Coshocton Post Office, who died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home at 1023 Adams St. will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Glass Funeral Home. Services are in charge of Oscar M. Adam, pastor of Grace M. E. Church and burial in South Lawn.
Mr. Abbott had been ill several weeks of complications of diseases. He had been a resident of this city 40 years. Mr. Abbott was born in Newark, Apr. 17, 1868, a son of Edgar G. and Mary Jane Abbott. His early life was spent near Plainfield where he married Anna M. Magness, daughter of Thomas F. and Elizabeth Magness on Dec. 6, 1891. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church.
Surviving are the widow, five daughters, Mrs. Leo Royer, Mrs. Joseph Williams, Edna May and Helen, all of Coshocton, and Winifred of Columbus; two sons, Frederick Edgar Jr. and Jack, both of the home; three brothers, Sheriff Jay Abbott, Councilman Charles W. Abbott, both of Coshocton and Donald Abbott of Chillicothe and three grandchildren. A brother, Dick of Wyoming, died several years ago and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Myers and Mrs. Wm. E. Price are also deceased.

Surviving are two brothers, Fred E. Abbott and Jack C. Abbott of here; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Williams and Mrs. Ray (Helen) Latham of here and two nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters. Graveside service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Lawn Cem. with Rev. Dennis Rinehart officiating. There will be no calling hours. Given-Dawson Coshocton Funeral Home is in charge.

Ref: Mary Elizabeth Abbott was born at the home of Dr. Jesse McClain, an Uncle of Fred Abbott. Mary graduated salutatorian of her Class of 1912 Coshocton High School. She was leading lady in her school play “Captain of Plymouth” in 1911 when she was a Junior. The play was presented at the 6th Street Theater.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Coshocton from 1917 until 1983.
She was employed for 20 years for the North Appalachian Experimental Watershed Agriculture Research Station retiring in 1957.
Marriage Record #157 filed and recorded Oct. 16, 1917 – I do certify that on the 4th day of Oct. 1917, I did solemnize the marriage of Mr. Jos. McNeil Williams and Miss Mary Eliz. Abbott. D. C. Boyd.

Born Nov. 6, 1924, in Coshocton, he was a son of the late Joseph M. and Mary (Abbott) Williams. On Sep. 25, 1953, he married Eloise (Davidson) Williams, who survives. Mr. Williams was a 1942 graduate of Coshocton High School and he attended Ohio State University and Pittsburgh Art Institute. In 1986, he retired from Rockwell International in Columbus as a graphics supervisor. In addition to his wife, Mr. Williams is survived by two sons, Joseph L. Williams and wife, Shari L. of Newark and Christopher A. Williams of Coshocton; two daughters, Shawn Morris and husband, Colonel Randy of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mary S. Dugan and husband, Michael of Columbus; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mary E. Smith and husband, Jack of Coshocton; a sister-in-law, Shirley Williams of Coshocton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Williams. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the Given-Dawson Funeral Home, with Pastor William Borsend officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Coshocton Co., OH, she was a daughter of Frederick and Anna (Magness) Abbott. Miss Abbott graduated from Coshocton High School in 1914. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Miss Abbott was a former employee of the Coshocton Tribune and Ohio Bell Telephone Co. here years ago. She took part in several home talent plays in Coshocton in the 1920’s.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Waldron, Las Vegas, NV, Edna Abbott, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Williams and Mrs. Ray (Helen) Latham, all of Coshocton; two brothers, Fred and Jack Abbott of Coshocton, 2 nephews and 1 niece. Mr. Latham formerly served as manager of the O. A. Hale Service Station at Main and Second Sts. and also owned and operated the Sunoco Service Station at Main and Second Sts. Since 1956, he had been a foreman at Pretty Products Co. plant, Cambridge Rd. Besides the widow, survivors include 2 sisters, Mrs. Norbert (Helen) Clark, Akron, and Miss Iris Latham, Ft. Wayne, IN. Two brothers are deceased. Private graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Coshocton County Memory Gardens with the Rev. Ronald L. Rearic officiating. Ref: Coshocton Tribune, Thursday, 30 March, 1961 - Woman, 83, Killed when hit by Auto at Newcomerstown -- Mrs. Kathryn Babcock, 83, of 202 Liberty Street, Newcomberstown, was killed instantly about 7:20 p.m., Wednesday when she was struck by a car while crossing West State Street on her way to services at the Evangelical United Brethren Church there. The driver of the car, Martha L. Arnold, 31, of 524 West State Street, Newcomberstown, apparently did not see the victim, who was approximately six feet from the curb when struck, according to the Police reports of the accident. Police Chief John Lawver said the driver of the car would not be held pending a complete investigation of the tragedy, which was the second traffic fatality of the year for Tuscarawas County. Mrs. Babcock was born September 1, 1877 at Plainsfield, a daughter of Thomas F. and Elizabeth (Love) Magness. She was first married to Shaffer C. Bassett, who died September 2, 1913, and later to Walker Babcock who died in 1936. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harvey Buker Sr., West Lafayette; one sister, Anna Abbott, of Coshocton; one grandchild and two great grandchildren.
One son and one brother are deceased. She was a member of the West Lafayette Methodist Church. She was active for a number of years in the Main Street Church Choir, which she directed. She was a member of the Falathia Rebekah Lodge, West Lafayette, and the Past Noble Grand. Private funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Bonnell Funeral Home, West Lafayette with Rev. David Patton officiating. Burial will be in Plainfield Cem. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Ref: Coshocton Morning Tribune, Wednesday Morning, September 3, 1913 - Plainfield Man Goes to Reward -- Funeral services over the remains of Shaffer Bassett age, 42, who died at the family home in Plainfield, Tuesday, will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Protestant Church and burial will take place in the Plainfield Cemetery, Rev. Dean will officiate. Mr. Bassett's death was due to Bright's disease from which he had suffered for several months past. He made a brave struggle but from the time that he was first stricken his life was despaired of and the end seemed inevitable.
Mr. Bassett was in the prime of life, but 42 years of age. He leaves his widow and a little daughter, Lorna, two years of age. A son, Harold died two years ago. Mr. Bassett's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bassett of Plainfield, two sisters, Mrs. Roy Loos of Plainfield, and Mrs. C. O. Leslie of Coshocton, and four brothers, Lewis, Clarence, Dempsey and Charles, all of Coshocton.
The four brothers from this city were summoned to Plainfield on Tuesday morning but arrived just a few minutes after Mr. Bassett's death.
Mr. Bassett was a man who was highly respected in the community. He was an industrious farmer and an honest and upright citizen. He was for many years a faithful member of the Methodist Protestant Church. He was a man whose influence will be missed n the Church and social life of the community.
The Bassett family has been sorely stricken with trouble in the past few months. Mr. Bassett has been seriously ill for some time; a short time ago Mrs. Bassett was seriously injured when her hair became caught in the pulley of a gasoline engine, and Mrs. Magness, Mrs. Bassett's Mother has been ill suffering with a nervous break down. Both Mrs. Bassett and Mrs. Magness are better at present.
Ref: Coshocton Tribune, Saturday, November 21, 1936 - West Lafayette Man is Claimed -- Walter Babcock, 54, Is dead following long illness -- Walter Babcock, 54, an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad for the past 20 years, died at 8 p.m. Friday (20 Nov. 1936) of complications at his home in West Lafayette, following a six months illness. He was born January 13, 1882, near Plainfield, the eldest son of Elia and Jane Babcock. He was a member of the West Lafayette Methodist Protestant Church, the Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge. He formerly had been a farmer.
Surviving is the wife, Kathryn; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Harvey Buker, and a step-grandson, Harvey Buker Jr., all of the home, and three brothers, Allen Babcock of Canton, George of Elyria and Clarence of Parkersburg, WV.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the West Lafayette Methodist Protestant Church, Rev. O. M. Peoples, assisted by Rev. Olyn Hull, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery. The body will be taken to the Church at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, where it may be viewed until time of services.

She was born in Plainfield, and lived in West Lafayette until 1975. She was a former employee of the Moore Enameling Company and the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. She was active in the American Red Cross and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Harvey Buker of Pinellas Park, FL, a son, Harvey Buker Jr. of Altamonte Springs, FL; two grandsons; and four great grandchildren.
The Osgood - Cloud Guardian Funeral Home in Pinellas Park, FL was in charge of the arrangements.

Born October 22, 1910, in West Lafayette, he was the son of the late John Ross and Emma (Duff) Buker.
He moved to Florida in 1975 after retiring as Chief Engineer at Jones Metal. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #602 in West Lafayette and was a 32nd degree Mason in Cambridge. He was also a lifetime member of Skyway Gun Club and a Rotarian.
Surviving are a son, Harvey R. Buker, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, two grandsons and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife. The remains will be buried in St. Petersburg, Florida at a later date. No local services are planned.
