He died in Saco and was buried at Laurel Hill Cem. on 1 Oct. 1946. Josephine died 29 May 1976. She became an expert in European history and traveled to Europe thirteen times.
Ref: Biddeford Daily Journal, Biddeford, ME, 5 Oct. 1946 -- Rites for Dr. George Love, Ex-Saco Mayor -- Veteran Physician in this Vicinity -- Dr. George Rusk Love, 77, former Saco mayor and York county medical examiner and a practicing physician in Saco for 25 years, died Friday at a local hospital, following a long illness.
Born at Plainfield, Ohio, January 21, 1869, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Rusk) Love, he was educated in public schools there and received his medical degree from Ohio State University. He was graduated with honors from Starling Medical College, Columbus, Ohio in 1897, and after a competition examination was appointed house surgeon at the Miami Valley hospital, Dayton, Ohio.
In 1898 he was appointed to the medical staff of the Toledo State hospital for the insane and served six years as chief of staff. He was later named superintendent of the same hospital, serving in that capacity until July 15, 1919, when he resigned and moved to Saco to take up general practice.
He served as York county medical examiner for several years, resigning a year ago because of ill health, and was twice elected president of the Wardwell home, Saco. He also served as treasurer of the Biddeford and Saco County club.
A former mayor of Saco, he was a member of the Masonic lodge, F. and A. M. Chapter Council, Knight Templars, Shriners all of Toledo, a member of the Biddeford and Saco Rotary club, the American Medical association and the Maine society. He attended the Second Parish Unitarian church, Saco.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Helen Deering Love; a son, George D. Love; two grandchildren, all of Saco; one brother, R. M. Love, Coshocton, OH, and three sisters; Mrs. Annie Kirk, Mrs. Emily Roche and Mrs. Bessie Lewis, all of Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 from his home, 408 Main Street, Saco.
Ref: Journal Tribune Weekend, Biddeford Daily Journal, 22 August 1992 -- In 1919 Mrs. Helen D. Love purchased a home at 408 Main Street, Saco, York Co., ME from C. Wilson Place. The transaction is recorded in Bk. 665, pg. 490 of the York County Recorders Office. The house has been designated a historical home and is now a bed and breakfast known as "The Crown and Anchor Bed and Breakfast". According to the application for designation of historical homes the home was two stories built of clapboard, with a new brick foundation, stick work under the eaves with trefoil details, cutty corner bay leaded glass double doors, and elaborate stick work porch. Of historic and architectural significance was a galbe with stick fan on elevation, a slate roof, a walkway of glazed red and black bricks leading to the front porch and it is the largest and most impressive stick style house in Saco.) The Roscoe Bowers house sits at 408 Main Street. This house is perhaps the best example of why this part of town could be referred to as "Mayors' Alley," home to numerous mayors of the city. This house was built in the 1880s, before or after the Joseph Hobson family transferred the land to the Bowers family. Roscoe Bowers purchased the land from Celia Hobson by 1885, that year paying taxes on the "home of Celia Hobson."
Therefore, he either built the house or bought it from Celia Hobson, wife of Joseph Hobson, a mayor of Saco. Joseph was also the son of the first mayor of Saco. Roscoe Bowers also served as mayor, as did Dr. George Love who later lived in the house. Incredibly, three Saco mayors have lived in this house.
Dr. George Love moved here from Ohio and became a prominent Saco physician. He married into the renowned Deering family. A choice story which has come down through the years involves the garage which now sits around the corner and behind the house. Originally the garage was at the end of the driveway but apparently Mrs. Love once drove through the garage door and out the back wall when she failed to bring the car to a stop. By rebuilding the garage in back, Dr. Love thought his wife would have to slow down to make the turn.

Ref: (PRO) – There are variances in both death and birth dates.
Ref: Journal Tribune, Saco, ME, 30 Apr. 1992 - Portland - George D. Love, 85, formerly of Saco, died Tuesday at Maine Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio, April 26, 1908, the son of Dr. George Rusk and Helen Deering Love. He had lived and was educated in Saco and attended Thornton Academy, Exeter Academy, Worcester Academy and MIT.
Mr. Love was a textile machinery design engineer for 25 years at the Saco-Lowell Shops in Biddeford. After leaving Saco-Lowell, he was employed for 14 years at Southworth Machine Company where he designed hydraulic lift tables. One of Mr. Love's designs was used at the Portland International Ferry terminal.
In 1959 the U. S. State Department sent Mr. Love on a trade mission to Poland. As a textile machine expert, he advised his counterparts on rebuilding their manufacturing bases. Several Polish citizens secretly gave Mr. Love personal messages, which he subsequently delivered to relatives living in the United States.
While living in the Saco community he served as chairman of the Saco Zoning Appeals Board, and for several years sat on the Board of Trustees of Thornton Academy. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge of Saco; a member of Kora Temple Shrine, Lewiston. He was also a member of the United Church of Christ in Biddeford, where he served on the business committee. As part of the church's 150th anniversary celebration, he designed and built a float-sized model of the church.
Mr. Love had a wide variety of interests reflecting his engineering skills, love of aviation, and space. He combined his meticulous attention to detail and handcrafting skills to create gas-driven model airplanes and model ships. As an amateur astronomer, he designed and built his own six-inch reflecting telescope, hand-grinding the primary lens. He was an accomplished photographer and helped found the Biddeford-Saco Camera Club. Many of his photographs were of astronomical events taken through telescopes. In his later years he became interested in model shipbuilding and built a replica of Charles Darwin's HMS Beagle.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Kennard Love of Portland; two daughters, Cynthia Estes of Delmar, NY and Deborah Olstad of San Diego, CA; a son, Mark Love of Portland; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Ref: Ltr dtd. 9 Oct. 1992, from Jillian C. Jakeman, Ocean Park, MD to PRO – In reply to your request for material on the Love family you will find enclosed newspaper obits; genealogy on the Deering family, George Rusk Love’s wife family; mayoral info; architectural and residential pictures and survey notes on the homes of both George R. and George D. The Crown and Anchor Bed and Breakfast, was the home of George and Becky Love. Becky (Rebecca) now lives in Portland on Danforth Street at Franklin Towers if you would like any further details. Zip is 04011, the street number is 125.
Becky was very pleased to hear that her old home had been completely restored to its early appearance. She and husband George also lived in the Bayview section of Saco on the ocean before moving to Portland.
George Rusk Love and his wife Helen, lived on Main Street until 1948 when they moved in with Katherine Deering on Westwood Lane. Katherine was Helen’s aunt. You will notice that it was Helen who bought the house on Main Street.
The Dyer Library was given to the city by Frank Deering, Helen’s brother who built the beautiful Italianate home for his residence. Joseph, Helen’s other brother, was born there. I would be glad to send you material on the Deering home if you are interested.
The original Dyer Library, named after Oliver Dyer by his wife bequeathed money to the city for a free public library, after she died in 1879. Her late husband having often expressed a desire that his property be left to the citizens of Saco. It is now the Saco Police Station. Very sincerely, Jillian C. Jakeman
