Additional inconsistencies in the Thomas theory involve causal ordering of events during the physical attack; something we alluded to earlier. Red marks around the neck indicate that the child was alive when being strangled probably preceding the head trauma, not following it. The urine stain in the carpet indicates the location of death as the “boiler room”, not JBR’s bedroom. The footprint in the “wine cellar” (see later discussions) indicates that JBR arrived in the basement under her own power. This latter point is the only one that sustains if we accept the understanding that Thomas is not arguing that the victim was dead upon arriving to the basement, only unconscious. But it seems unlikely to us that PR would concoct a plan (part of which would require her to decide where to take JBR) and move JBR to the basement, then find the rope and duct tape (which she had not planned to use, so it was ostensibly stored or placed randomly somewhere), then asphyxiate her with sufficient vigor to finally kill her all quickly enough that only minor brain swelling occurred with no wound organization. About two tablespoons of blood at the location of the head trauma was found at autopsy (see forensic analysis later). How could such a massive wound exhibit so little biological response in the minimum time required indicated by the narrative above? It is possible but not forensically probable. For these reasons, the entire injury sequence likely occurred in one location.
We also suspect that a parent making a mistake and wounding their child in the manner shown by the head trauma and hypothesized by Thomas would find it far simpler and less risky to concoct a story of what happened (as a tragic but pure accident) and take the child to the emergency room, dealing with any accusations of malfeasance in the same way they ultimately had to do when suspected of murder. So, the motive doesn’t add up. Indeed, the hypothesized motive suggests that the parents would have almost certainly rushed the child to the emergency room after quickly creating a cover story involving a purely non-negligent accident. That would be a far easier court battle than to fight charges of sexual assault and murder. However, this speaks to the state of mind of PR, JR and perhaps BR, so we’ll exclude it for the purposes of a best-fit. We simply note it for its obvious inconsistency (criminals rationalize their crimes like this quite often, despite the lack of logic in it).
