Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus members wanna hold your hand
in energy-packed Beatles show June 30-July 1 at The Rialto

Time for some fun! One of AGMC’s most popular shows returns

in an even more fabulous version: Revolution

June 5, 2017 — The Beatles. The legendary band was only together for a decade, but its music and message have had more impact on people of all ages — then and now — than probably any other band. Ever. The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is excited to conclude its 36th season with two performances of its show Revolution at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State in downtown Atlanta on Friday and Saturday, June 30-July 1. Tickets are now available through a link on the Voices of Note website or the Rialto Box Office.

“When we first performed a Beatles show in 2010, the audience reaction was incredible. And that was from a diverse audience that ranged from teenagers to those who were part of the ‘Flower Power’ generation of the ’60s…and those even older,” said Kevin Robison, AGMC artistic director now completing his 10th season leading the AGMC. “The music is just that universal.”
“With the Beatles’ huge catalog of such popular music, we had a challenge to get everyone’s favorites into that first show; we got many follow-up suggestions from our audience regarding which songs we might have included as well as those we should keep if we even reprised the show,” the director noted. “We just couldn’t resist building on that success with one that adds many of those songs in a fast-paced, energetic show that will be significantly enhanced with more multi-media, funkadelic lighting, colorful costumes, dancing…the works!”
Brilliant music, a message of peace, love and acceptance

From “Imagine” to “St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “All You Need is Love” and much more, Revolution will be a fun, uplifting event that undoubtedly will have the audience singing along in places as they rock to the music.
“The Beatles were brilliant in their work, resolved in their politics, and the message threading through their body of work makes a strong case for a non-violent revolution against the systems that were dividing society then — and are still at play today,” Robison noted. “‘Revolution’ is the message of hope, love and freedom that we all need.”
The Beatles’ Atlanta connection

Many of us weren’t either living in or near Atlanta, or perhaps even born when the Fab Four came to the city. But on Aug. 18, 1965 — about the middle of their run as a group — the Beatles were welcomed by a screaming, appreciative crowd as they performed in the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Two months later, they were back in London to receive merits from the queen for their international fame and contribution to England’s financial health. A nod to both events is part of the prelude to the AGMC show.

“The Beatles’ legacy lives on, and the Gay Men’s Chorus is proud to wrap up Season 36 with this way-cool tribute!” the artistic director said.

Tickets now on sale

Individual tickets for Revolution begin at $15 and are available now through the Voices of Note website or the Rialto Box Office. Child, senior and group discounts are available. Both shows begin at 8 p.m.

About the AGMC, AWC and Voices of Note

The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus, one of the world’s longest-running gay male choruses, is part of Voices of Note, Inc., a not-for-profit organization governing the AGMC and the Atlanta Women’s Chorus. Voices of Note is a catalyst for social change, providing an opportunity to be inspired, a journey to places in hearts and minds that have yet to be explored, and a voyage into the perspectives of our neighbors, teachers, siblings and friends. Both the AGMC and the AWC are members of GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses.
Voices of Note programs are supported in part by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. Major support is provided by Atlanta Magazine, Macy’s, PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP) and Turner Broadcasting. Additional support is provided by Bridge Catering, Brandon D Hunt Design, Dan Lax Media, Peachtree Battle Chiropractic, Saint Mark United Methodist Church, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
A complete listing of financial supporters — and how you can support the mission of the two choruses — can be found at www.voicesofnote.org. For more information, see the website or call (404) 320-1030.
