According to History of West Virginia and Its People, Peter Joachim came from Sweden and helped to settle the Wicaco settlement near Philadelphia several years before the coming of William Penn when the country along the Delaware was new Sweden. He moved to Swedes Ford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1682. In 1712 he settled at Upper Marion, Pennsylvania. In 1693, there were 9 in his family. He served as constable in 1787. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Michael Harness, a representative of the early Randolph family. Michael Harness was one of the first settlers in the South Branch of the valley and it is said that on the entry into the valley, Elizabeth, then 11 years of age, led the party.
