Collections and Exhibits

Exhibits and Visitor Experience:

  • The exhibit hall currently hosts Kentucky:225 Years on the Move, an exhibit celebrating 225 years of transportation history in Kentucky. The exhibit will be up through May 2018.

  • In 2018, we will begin doing much needed upgrades to exhibits. We will be refreshing several areas within the museum to refresh exhibit appearances as well as enhance the stories told about Corvette and its history.

  • We are acquiring a C6 Corvette Racing Simulator that will be pay-to-play. The simulation will be a 4-5 minute experience and costs will be in the $8-$10 range.

  • We will continue to bring in member vehicles on loan for display in the museum exhibits, but are making an effort to bring out more of the unique museum owned Corvettes for exhibit.

Collections:

  • We are in the middle of a complete collections inventory and cataloging process of the collection. During the process, we will also rehouse and reshelf many artifacts for more secured storage.

  • The Library & Archives continues to collect documents related to the history of Corvette. Digitization of the Corvette build sheets continues. We will be embarking on the process of starting a collections digitization for the Library & Archives as well in 2018.

  • The Museum collection continues to grow as well. We have seen donations of numerous Corvettes over the last year and other 3-dimensional items related to Corvette and its history.

  • In 2018 the preservation of the collection will receive more focus. Derek and Daniel will begin the process of conserving many of the vehicles in the collection and ensuring they are cared for properly.

  • The restoration of the 1962 Corvette that fell into the sinkhole began in 2017 and is well underway. Completion of the restoration, which is being done in house, is scheduled for the anniversary of the sinkhole in 2018.

A two hour class where students of all ages will learn basic car care from changing a tire, to checking fluids in an engine, changing a headlight bulb and more.

Career AwarenessDuring this tour, students meet with our professional staff and discuss their career, requirements and job opportunities.

Musical Performance- We provide an outlet for choirs, bands and ensembles to not only take a tour of the NCM, but to showcase their musical talents in our Chevrolet Theater for our guests.

Scouts- Includes Museum tour and scavenger hunt with a “fun” patch for completing it.
Classroom Outreach

The Museum takes to the road to visit the classroom in one of our NCM Corvettes. We speak about the NCM and teach students how to be safe passengers with our “Backseat Driver” program.

Teacher Resources

We provide not only automotive related activities for the classroom, but also lesson plans for our always changing exhibits and displays.

Ways You Can Help
Fund A Field Trip

Send students on a fieldtrip to the Museum that cannot afford to take fieldtrips. Funds go towards admission, boxed lunches and/or transportation. $300 funds a classroom, $1,000 funds an entire grade.

Hot Wheels/Matchbox Cars

The future of Corvette starts with the kids. What better way to spark that excitement than to send kids home with a toy Corvette? Donate one, or a hundred, we appreciate all and make sure they get in the hands of excited children to take home from their day at the NCM.
