Ancient Greek Totally 10 June 17

  • Choose assignments from different categories (you cannot choose all assignments from the same category unless it is worth 10.) which total a value of 10.

  • Choose:

  • One 2 and an 8 or

  • Two 2s and a 6, or

  • One 10

  • Value:

  • 2 = 10 points

  • 4 = 20 points

  • 6 = 30 points

  • 8 = 40 points

Geography


  1. Do a 250-300 word write-up identifying similarities between ancient Greek society (social classes, roles and the arts) and societies of today. (Here in North America or in other regions of the world.) (2)

  2. Draw a map showing the principal sites in the Persian Wars. Identify those instances in the wars where critical decisions were made which determined outcomes. Examine the options available at the time and hypothesize as to the possible consequences if other decisions had been made. (6)

  3. Build a realistic topographical model of the Greek Peninsula and the surrounding area. Include the major geographical features of the area, the major city states, significant places to Greek Culture (ie. Mount Olympus, Delphi, Olympia etc) and areas of famous battles identified on the model. (Should be 2 ft minimum) Include a 1 page write up on the impact that geography played on the civilizations of Greece and on the history of the significant locations included. (10)

  4. Design a board game or electronic game where you lead players through a lesson on Greek geography, Greek Wars and Greek culture to demonstrate how they are interconnected. We must be able to play the game. Make sure to include rules, instructions, game pieces, and a name (10).

Events/ Content


  1. Identify, and explain, the characteristics of a great leader. Explain how the great leaders in Ancient Greece met those characteristics (ex. Themistocles, Pericles, Leonidas, Alexander the Great). (2)

  2. Write a song/rap and record it or play it live, based on an event or leader of Ancient Greece of your choice (ie. Alexander the Great, Leonidas). I have all kinds of recording gear to help with the recording. (6)

  3. Create a thorough timeline of Greek History covering the major events and people in Greek History. It would be best if it were created using a computer. You should incorporate pictures into the timeline. Make sure to research other timelines online to see how they are created. (6)

  4. Ancient Greek Collage - Use the computer to find photos (or magazines, if available) to make a collage showing different aspects of Greek civilization (culture, Olympics, history, geography, religion etc.) Include a 1.5 page write up explaining the significance of each of the elements included in the design and the role it played in Greek Society. (8)

  5. Ancient Greek Contribution Collage - Use the computer to find photos to make a collage the major contributions of Ancient Greece on the modern world. Include a 1.5 page write up explaining the significance of each of each contribution in the collage and its presence in today’s Society. (8)

  6. Create a children’s storybook based on everyday life in Ancient Greece. It could be retelling a myth or story from Greece. It should be very visual with simple language and a glossary of at least 10 terms in the back of the book. (8)

  7. Create a stop motion animation or felt animation movie on a major topic from Ancient Greece (battle, democracy, schooling, Greek Mythology etc.) (10)

  8. Create a ColesNotes study guide to the Peloponnesian Wars, Persian Wars, or Alexander the Great. Cover the major topics such as lead up, causes, major events during and the results of the events. The book should be bound, with a cover, table of contents, headings, page numbers, and maps. (10)

  9. Ancient Greek Times Newspaper – write articles, want ads, classifieds, editorials, etc and create a newspaper. Each article should cover a news story dealing with a different aspect of Greek life (government, music, art, religion, history etc…) (10)

  10. Tell the complete story of one of the following in the form of a children’s story book. (Limited text on each page, illustrations to accompany the text. Min. 8 pages) A glossary of 7 new terms MUST be included. (10)

  1. Choose one of the following topics below and write a 500-700 word research paper. In doing this research paper, make sure to compare Athens and Sparta. As well, in the end, include your insight into the topic (your thoughts) and finally indicate any link to today, whether there are similarities or if your topic today was influenced by the Ancient Greeks. You must use a minimum of 3 different sources in your research. (The textbooks would be good places to start.) Make sure to follow proper MLA formatting for essay writing. Include a “Works Cited” page. (10)

Culture


  1. Create your own fresco that depicts a certain belief of the Ancient Greeks (use paint, large white paper) A half page typed write-up must accompany it describing the fresco and the significance of the events in the fresco on Ancient Greece. (6)

  2. Create a double sided, 3 panel, brochure. You will need to gather at least 10 different facts about your topics. These different topics should be organized on your brochure so that viewers will learn rich information about your topics. Make sure to use a few eye catching photos to support your topics. Must be printed in colour. (6)

  1. Create, and record, a TV or Radio ad for an Ancient Greek invention. Create a model of the product. (8)

  2. Greek Living Museum- Analyze Greek culture and create your own Greek museum by creating, drawing, or finding pictures of architecture and cultural items included your famous museum (ie. Clothing, temples, artwork, myths, information on wars, maps etc. – must include at least 10 items and educate someone about all aspects of Ancient Greece). (8)

  3. Build a replica of a Greek building (Parthenon, Greek temple, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World that was in Greece, Greek Amphitheatre). The building should be constructed out of a solid material (Wood, clay). A 300 word (MLA formatted) write-up should be included explaining the history of the building. (10)

  4. Build a replica of Greek weapons of war (ballista, belly bow, hoplon shield, body armour, sword and spear) or musical instrument (water organ, cithara, lyre, aulos). The structure should be made out of a solid material (Wood). A 300 word (MLA formatted) write-up should be included explaining the history of the artifact. (10)

  5. Build a replica of a Greek trireme. The trireme should be made out of a solid material (Wood/metal) be about 2 ft. in length, and be very detailed to match the original battle ship. A 300 word (MLA formatted) write-up should be included explaining the history of the trireme. (10)

Extra Credit Assignment


Instructions: Once you have finished your Totally 10 assignment you can complete an extra credit assignment as an enrichment project.

  1. Complete one of the above mentioned projects with a value of 6 or 10.
