Introduction to Augview
Augview is a mobile asset management application which allows users to view GIS data on smartphones and tablets.
Augview software on your smartphone or tablet connects directly to one or more GIS web servers over a secure internet connection. Geographic asset data is then requested from the web server and displayed on a smartphone or tablet either as a map, text or as a 3D visualization. Asset information (cables, poles, etc.) can then be edited directly by the user in the field and the data on the server is updated immediately and without any additional administrative overhead.
With a modern user interface, Augview has been designed using familiar layouts and concepts that allow staff to leverage their existing knowledge of everyday mobile phone and tablet applications. We provide all the power of a mobile GIS in a way that a non-GIS user can understand and work with effectively.
Augmented reality technology is used to display a 3D model of asset on top of the video feed allowing the users to ‘see’ objects on the device that may be obscured in the real world. This increases the field workers understanding of their environment without any prior experience.
Augview offers the ability to view and interrogate your spatial data on a mobile device in combination with data from multiple sources. For an organization that wants to provide service provisioning or is installing underground assets, Augview provides a system which can pull in data from a number of companies and local agencies to provide the user with a greater level of understanding of the existing infrastructure, both above and below the ground.
For Augview to work well, we suggest your device meet our minimum requirements:
Connectivity
The device must be able to be connected to the internet via WiFi and/or Mobile network data connectivity. For live data transmission a 3G or 4G data connection is required.
Display
The device display must be touchscreen and have a minimum resolution of 480x800
Operating System
Android 2.3
iOS
Windows Phone 8 (coming soon)
Windows 8 (coming soon)
Sensors
To use augmented reality the device must have a compass (magnetometer), rear facing camera, GPS, gyroscope and an accelerometer.
Registration
To use Augview, both the user and the device must be registered. A user requires authorisation to access data and the device requires authorisation to access the app. Both steps must be completed.
Before a user can access company data through Augview, they must have been provided with a username, password and an Augview licence token from their GIS administrator. If you have not been provided with these, please contact your administrator before continuing.
Once you have been provided with a username, password and a licence token, you can proceed with registering the device.
Open the app using the Augview icon
If the device has never been registered with Augview, you will see the following screen
Select “OK”
You will now be sent to the registration service to register your device
