Holmes and Fred Herrick were sued for damages when the

company's lighters from Bagdad were held up in Pensacola for 12

days waiting for a ship to transport a load of lumber. The lower court

Owens, who owned a store at Haywood's Landing, was

convicted of murder. He thought he was shooting at A. J. McMillan,

Jr., but instead he killed William E. Wester. The lower court judgment

was affirmed.

Whittington's daughter, Elizabeth Anderson, who "had one 

eighth or more of negro blood in her veins," married a white man, W.

J. Grooms, and left her estate to him. The mother argued the marriage



was illegal and that, instead, she should inherit property in Pensacola.

The lower court decision was affirmed.

Kirkland was convicted for the murder of Mrs. Mary Jane Sutton;

after his trial, his lawyer learned Kirkland was "insane or demented."

The family of Neill A. Baker (d. 1906), a turpentine operator,

sued to collect proceeds of an insurance policy. He had been indebted

to W. J. Daniel & Co., and used the policy as security on a mortgage.

The lower court decision in favor of Milton, the company's surviving partner, was reversed.

Rhoda's son, a flagman of the railroad, was killed by a company

Each party claimed rights to submerged lands in St. Andrews Bay. The ice company's wharf interfered with the railroad's wharf. See maps

court, but the decision was reversed and a new trial ordered.

Supreme Court, January term, 1916.

Smith, a justice of the peace, was convicted of malpractice in

office and failing to turn over fines to the County treasurer. The case

was remanded to the lower court for resentencing.

Dillon, a carpenter on a British ship, arrived in Pensacola, July,

1916, and demanded half wages under provisions of the Seamen's Act

The case was dismissed by the U.S. Supreme Court (248 U.S.

Court of Appeals holding that such payments of wages were constitutional

was affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court (Sandberg et al. vs. McDonald,

248 U.S. Reports 185).

Slay and others petitioned to have the tax collector prepare a list
