I used greenies that day. I made fillet strips with them. On other occassions, I use whatever happens to be around and do the same. For example, the other day I was getting a lot of butter fish. I used them the same way and ended up catching a bunch of blues on bottom rig.

Fishing the peir as I type this. Calm conditions crystal clear. So far absolutely NOTHING. Besides the millions of puffers that seem to have plotted some sort of invasion . I overheard them saying something about floating the peir to hallandale LOL. But anyways thinking about trying sea legs to regain my dignity. Til next time :happyfis herman:

Fished sat about one hour before sunset till 1:30am. THe wind picked up when I got there. I heard it was clear and calm with no fish all day. No bites till the sun went down. A heavy se wind came thru. I got a short mutton right off the reef on a bally plug. Moved to the t and dug out a few mangroves and a decent grunt. We had a few big hits. Probable big blue fish. Around 11 the wind just died. I mean died. The mangrove shut down and so did the fishing. The catch of the day was when this guys rod got slammed and went over the side. Me and my buddies snagged it. There was a live grunt for bait on his hook. I wonder what hit it so hard. It was real funny!
Here is a pic of the cooler.

First report in a very long time... Bite was near non existent this morning. Tried some ballyhoo chunks off the T for bluefish but nada. Looked around for bait, but not much until first light when gogs started bugging.

Only thing I saw caught were a puffer and one guy had some decent luck off the T with live shrimp. Landed a porgy, nice cero, and a few short snaps and tails.

Havent been on a pier in over a year so it was nice to get out and see some familiar faces, even though most of them didnt recognize me. Glad to see some things really dont change with time.

Until this desert rat makes his way to the ocean again... Tight lines.

by yellow0wing » Sun Mar 27, 2011 4:30 pm

Fished near the hut from 7 AM to 1:30 PM today. The bite was absolutely non existent! I only saw a couple of Blue Runner and Gogs brought up over the rail.

I did get a good hook up on a fresh Mullet head I had soaking on the north side of the rail. What ever it was about spooled me,however I was able to gain about half of the spool back when the line snapped, probably on the reef.

It wasn't a complete loss, it was a beautiful day. I'm going out on Sea Legs 3 this Thursday night for the opening of the Vermillion season.

Plenty of bait and some big fish (Kingfish) caught at the end of pier today. Pompano inshore. They are baack!!! Listen, I did not spend 50 bucks on tackle today to come back and lie about what was caught on the pier. Save your fishtales for your wife cause I fish wth mine. And was the kingfish a freakish size..yes.. Did I catch it..no.. The pompano were abundant inshore, you should call the pier and ask, everyone was really excited about it and I am sure they will tell you. Happy lines.

There "was" a King caught Monday and Pomps late. Today there were Bluefish, Macks, Pomps and some Jacks. Plenty of bait. And that was while i was there till noon'ish. Still biting now.

by Lomax aka ZEBCO » Tue Mar 29, 2011 5:28 pm Dania

Been big baits around for a week plus, and small ones scattered around inside. There will be much more bait as they migrate north. Bait will be around for the most part till late October'ish. The crystal clear days can be tough at times. Mack fishing should start getting good as they come with all the food.

Plenty of macks at the tee and blues mid pier around 1 o clock. All caught on pilchards..

Fished Yesterday from 1130-1400h. Missed the morning action i heard lots of pomps and blues were caught. I wanted to throw my pomp jig but got intimidated by those 12' rods and calcuttas lined up on both sides never seen so many of them in a single day

I was out there Saturday night from 7:30pm-12pm trying to catch snappers at the T but NOTHING!! while i was there i saw a guy catch what he said was a bullfish but i didnt get a good look at it and a 10ft shark made a nice show/fight before some guy cut him off the line.
the pier was super packed. i managed to get a good spot at the back at the T but wth so many ppl out there its hard fishing in peace. Some fat guy kept getting mad that we got tangled up with each other 2 times. probablly cuz he didnt catch jack sh!t. so if your not down to hang out and hear a bunch of drunk guys talking sh!t lol then wait it out till the fishing gets better.

Got out Monday after sunrise, pretty crowded as school was out for the day. Good a.m. bite, blues, macs, pomps. slow afternoon picked back-up around 4pm.Tuesday sunrise, place was packed. Sat around and watched as a few pomps were pulled in here and there, crowd cut in half about 9am and halved again before noon as it turned off for three hours. Got a single before the storm hit, down to about 12 people now! What a front that was as we watched numerous waterspouts around the pier! Got paid as things cleared-up and the wind shifted about 5 times in an hour and the pomps came in waves Two good days and 12 pomps to share!

Went out 4/6/11, and bait was plentiful. One oceanic bonita off the south side of the tee, maybe 20-25 pounds. Dude caught it on a baitcaster setup. Plenty of bluefish and the guy next to me (before the tee on the southside), caught a mutton,a whiting, and a blue runner. The mutton was caught right when the wind shifted blowing from the north to blowing from the northeast and cloud cover was obvious. I helped him net it. The free pier net at Dania is nice if you know it is present. I had one major hit on a floater baitfish, but he came back at me then turned his head hard and my 15 pound test/knot gave way with the leader. Felt like a nurseshark.

Fished today from 5 am to 10 am .Got only 3 big Blue runners ,a small shark (released) ,got twice caught of by some fish , probaly Bluefish . Did see a couple of Bluefish landed (when it was still dark) .Water was very clear with hardly any wind or current to speak of and there was plenty of bait .

Last time i took mydaughter to "OCEAN", i noticed juvenile pilchard school there.

I went there about 6pm Friday eve and there were plenty of Pilchards around....caught about 40 of them in an hour as that's what I needed for Sat morning. I also saw a few nice macs caught off the T in the hour I was there.

by BOATS.MOES » Mon Apr 18, 2011 7:44 pm Dania

Went fishing today got nothing but sardines. There was alot geting caught, huge school. No big fish caught or even small just sardines. Quick tip sardines hate red so dont use any bait rigs that have red on them!

by Greenlaw » Sun Apr 17, 2011 12:32 pm Dania

Got out to the pier around 7:00 (74'), wind was out of the west for most of the day. I fished off of the north side of the pier on and near the T. I used live shrimp and some bait fish I caught with my sabiki rig (two children were next to me pulling in 10 bait fish for every one of mine, frustrating). I was casting bait fish off of the north side and dropping the live shrimp just off the side of the pier.

No luck at all for me ( or skill possibly)

There were about 30 lines in the water when I got there and about 50 by the time I left (11:15am, 84'). I saw 5 fish caught while I was there (over 4 hours). Three blue runners (10-"15"), one mutton snapper, 14"( grouper rig casting as far as I have seen off of the NE corner), and one needle fish.

Not a whole lot of action, I think I may try Anglins pier next. Not in any negative way,but I felt like a foreigner considering that I was the only person there not speaking Spanish.

by Lomax aka ZEBCO » Thu Apr 21, 2011 11:52 pm Dania

I got 1 Pomp, seen no others. Small Macks and a few biggers around. Some Jacks, and Tarpon have been roaming pretty frequently for the past 2 weeks. Then of coarse, we have a Snook die and floating because some retard Miami dipsh**t decided his hook was more important to rip out of the fishes throat than cutting the line. I am getting tired of these googan idiots that have no respect for nothing but themselves.
I can't wait till they get Newport built so we can rid these idiots.
We have a really good pier with dumbazzes giving it a bad rap.

Fished yesterday morning from 0900-1300h. Solid bait at the T, few macks caught on the south side. Seen a rod and reel jumped into the water! A mack probably hit it. Funniest thing ive seen so far on his pier... Tight lines everyone and loosen your drag! Lol

Monday sunset report. Lots of bait holding at the T to move offshore around 7:30. Saw 2 macks caught, 1 bluefish, 2 lady fish, 1 small shark. Some guy jumped a very large tarpon on a bottom rod… Interesting to see so many people fishing on a Monday evening. Most were catching bait… But then I noticed later all these people catching bait were cleaning them to eat….. Desperate times I guess…… Tight lines

Went out there on Monday, May 2nd. From 7:30 - 10am. Strong wind out of the east. Pulled up 3 blue runners, 1 Jack, and 2 "look downs". Nothing of great size but they were all caught on a light rod with 8# test which made it a good fight. My buddy had something that he fought for about two minutes until the 80# swivel clip broke. That would have been fun to land.

sunday was pretty good. got about 25 dinky macks between me and boats.hoes, 3 nice size bluefish, and about a 5ft blacktip on a mack. i also hooked a spinner and saw about a ten foot t head swiming straight up and down from the pier. pilchards and ballyhoo were stacked up

by Baitfish » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:39 pm Dania

Started fishing about 9:30 and finished up about 2:30. The wind was rippin' out of the east, the tide was incoming and the water was cloudy green. I was about 3/4 of the way to the T and the bite was pretty good today. Tied on my favorite Yo-Zuri and made a test cast prior to filling the bait bucket and BAM hooked a nice 18" Mack. The bait was thick, but there was no action on pilchards or anything else I saw. Artificials seemed to be the only thing producing. The wind was too much for the Yo-Zuri and the action seemed to be deeper so I switched to a red and white Gotcha. That did the trick. Pulled in 6 more macks over the next 3 hours. Also had two drop-offs and numerous test-bites.
The best "one that got away" was a new looking spinning outfit. I got it right up to the rail and the tangle broke.
I heard tales of some blues and pompanos, but I didn't see them. The pier was a little crowded, but pretty orderly. A good day.

by YakPirate » Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:09 am Dania

Fished dania yesterday from 4-8pm. The action was pretty slow until 6pm when the schools of macs and blues started to come through. If you had a line in the water you probably caught a Mac. Crappie jigs, gotchas, and live pilchards and herring were getting the job done. I personally got worked by a snook free lining a bait for Macs. There was plenty of bait around the T until sun down.

Lots of small Macks for a few weeks now. I can't be bothered with them little things. I am even catching them on my Pomp rods when I reel in and they attack my hooks. I had to fish the T a few days back because it was rough. Those little Macks kept killing my rigs in packs as soon as I'd hit bottom. I don't know why everyone keeps them. They are so small. They should raise the size limit.

Hit the pier around 630am and stayed until 10. Winds were calm, the waves weren't breaking. If I had a kayak, I'd probably have taken it out there considering how calm it was. Still, all I saw was bait fish and a couple needlefish or small cuda. Only snook was way by the entrance to the pier. I didn't see anyone catching anything while I was there.

by rshields » Sat Jan 05, 2013 10:05 pm

Today was slow, South current with a chum block out for hoos, gogs were in but a tough time getting them. It rained early in the morning then the sun came out and brought all of the second shifters from Michigan, Alabama and Cuba with many children and a new set of rods from wally-world. Free lined a few gogs and got ripped a few times. Bottom fishing produced a giant parrot fish a few lizards for those with the shrimp. On my friends rod a huge blue fish about 7lbs or more, couldn't get a good feel for the weight because he went under the pier and broke it off. I was out from 5 AM through 3 PM and not any real fish over the rail to speak of, maybe a few sand macs I forgot about. Heading out for the morning sunrise to see if I can jack anything up. Forgot to say... it may be slow but being on the ocean is as good as it gets and we tried all of our tricks to land anything and came up short- that's fishing

fished from 6am-10:30 am yesterday and was hoping to land my first pompano. about 10 minutes after daybreak I got a hit on my sand flea rig. Felt like a decent fish, cranked about 8 times and it came unglued. No other hits on the sandfleas the rest of the time I was there. Caught sand perch, filefish, pork fish, pin fish, a few small jacks and a spot tail pinfish that was big enough for a sandwich, it was my lunch along with some tomato and toast. Also saw the kids killing the gogs on bugs and at one point saw about a 60lb tarpon roaming around, but he wanted nothing to do with the porkfish I dangled in front of him on my bait rod. Nothing really going on....besides the fish caught on my bait rod, I saw others land a trumpet fish and what looked like a sea robin. No real fish to speak of.

by Backwoods123 » Sat Jan 19, 2013 12:35 pm

Went out Sunday with Mike, we landed 27 macs in the 2-4 pound range, gave most of them away to those who couldn't seem to get into the catch. Mike used his world famous crappy jig with a strip technique in close and I used a 2 oz spoon to pitch over the reef, most of mine caught were larger side but Mike landed more sand-macs then me on his killer set-up. Me, I don't use a crappy jig except in the canals in my back yard. We threw jigs and lures for 5 hours, nothing on the bottom, bait used on the bottom was mac belly, did have a dead weight hook up seemed like a nurse shark pulled it in for awhile and then seemed like a drive by bit my line in the middle. Goggs were hard to get, chum bag brought in a few very scarce hoos wind was cool to cold and the current was heading North. Also, saw a rabbit caught and I got two lizards on the drop and retrieve over the reef. Put a gogg out 150 Yards on a bottle he earned his freedom after 3 hours of swimming in circles with no hits. Saw a few snook inside and tried t get a live one to fish but couldn't get one when the snook were in, saw some greenies but late on the plan to get one. Beautiful day in the neighborhood.....

Sat AM - Macs came through in waves - Limits were easy if u wanted one - White crappies as usual and gotchas were productive - I kept 6 for a pal at work. Pomps were down in the breakers at daybreak, but sporadic....I left by 9 AM, as my daughter ran out of patience, but Im sure it improved as the day's wind and tide seemed to pick up....

There's few things that get me to Anglins on a weekend in season, but a S/SE wind in March / April is one of em....

large crowd on hand this morning hoping for pomps, but there were only 3 or 4 to go around from what I saw. Tension was high as a skinny guy encroached on a big guy's space and proceeded to cast right over his head after he impolitely warned him not to do that. Skinny guy felt threatened after the screaming and threats that followed and called the cops. After the cops left and the pompano crowd realized today was not the day and also left, the macks moved in and many were caught on jigs and gotchas. I left at 11am with 6 macks and a croaker that ended up having worms....no spaghetti for me...thanks.

Fished from 0900-1200. Awesome weather with winds from the SE.. some pomps in the morning but when I arrived the macs were the only thing biting. Small jigs, gotchas and of course the very dependable crappie jigs were the ticket. Action has been pretty steady I caught my limit and released a lot. Not too much action today but did add a new species to my list -- sennet. Looks like an olive green silver barracuda without spots. Was only a pound or two, but from reading about them they don't get very big. Didn't see too much action between 7-10 this morning. Just one pomp, one jumbo spanish mack and some moonfish came over the rail. Wind seemed to be out of the north at 10 mph. Water was pretty green, and calm.

Saturday was not too bad

final haul was 3 pomps, 13 macks and the biggest butterfish I've ever seen

by anas473 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 5:17 pm

Two days ago I visited the pier and resided from 8am to 2:30pm. Around sunrise there was a fellow who caught two pompano before I came and another who I heard caught some from the surf. Bait was scarce around the pier, I only managed to pull up two spot tail pinfish. One was hit by what I think was a shark, it was cut off later into the fight when I handed my setup to a friend who was new to the sport. People were throwing pompano jigs and other mackerel jigs all day but nothing produced. The conditions were great but the fishing sure was slow.

They are getting Pompano in the Morning yesterday and today, this is from the day attendants I was not there, so take it with a pinch but it did sound as though something was happening..

between 1:45pm and 4:30pm yesterday there were about 5-6 pomps landed. Most trying did not get anything and were frustrated….and those that did only got one each. There was no real pattern…..scattered location-wise and some came on bait others on jigs, some babies, and some 15 inches. Other than that, saw one jack almost landed and one runner.

At Anglins, nothing. The biggest thing I've seen caught so far was a huge pufferfish. Just waiting for the pomps

might want to bring a gotcha or spoon along. The bluefish were ravenous yesterday around low tide. Pomps were biting jigs around high tide.

Went today from 8AM-1:00PM there were a couple schools of goggle eyes around, I used some live shrimp but that didn't really yield much, a couple of hits but nothing came up. Around 12:00PM a small school of macks came through and I managed to get one, they came from under the pier so I'm assuming they were following a school of silversides that showed up. Some guys at the T caught a few lesser amberjacks on live shrimp, besides that didn't see much else happening today. Tight lines!

School of small Pompano this morning right after sunrise. Small macks chasing glass minnows. Other than that pretty slow. I did hook about a 5 foot bull shark off the t snapper fishing.

Fished tonight 6:30pm-10:30. 2 Grovers 12" and a 14" on pilchard just past the hut on the south side. There was a poop ton of bluefish around everyone catching them released at least 6 myself. A lot of action but mostly Bluefish. A buddy of mine got a keeper pompano on Sunday on a gotcha. Kinda early for Pompano and blues but then again it is coming up on October.

Alot of Bluefish the last 3 days.

Saw some nice size Jacks also caught, I only saw Macks way out sky rocketing nothing close to the pier

About 5 LB mack caught this morning...

by HJared » Wed Oct 21, 2015 11:14 am

5 or so spanish macks yesterday afternoon

by bigyellowtuna » Sun Oct 25, 2015 8:00 pm

Some really nice macks taking a swipe or two at my lures and one that sky rocketed, but they kept missing whatever I threw at them. Also had three suspected macks take live perch but two resulted in cutoffs and one managed to steal the perch. Nobody landed any keeper fish worth mentioning on the first half of pier that I noticed this morning. There were a lot of undersized muttons which was interesting--guess the wind has them pushed inside the reef. A few undersized pomps around, though bigger than the babies I saw last week. A few jacks and undersized mutton were all I could connect with today, but that is better than nothing. Sucks to see a big Mack come up and miss your lure........an image that stays with you until you land one...hopefully next time out.

I hit up dania pier last thursday night, caught an atlantic sharpnose shark, lots of bluefish that night as well. The highlight of the night was this young guy who caught a very big sandbar shark soaking a cut in half sharpnose shark, I helped him walk it down to the beach and moments later had it on the beach, I dont have any photos of it but it was a beautiful shark, it was released after a few quick photos

Two weeks since a report has been made. Anyone been out lately? From what I've seen from the fish cam, it has looked pretty dead.
