5344 AUST WW1 A significant and important Shire Appreciation scroll awarded to "Major James Lawson DSO 4th Light Horse" of Beersheba fame. Presented by the shire of Dunmunkle, a highly decorative coloured scroll in lovely condition. Very patriotic with Allied flags, a fighting and falled digger with the Australian flag behind. The bottom half being bordered by sprigs of wattle. Beautifully framed in an original period wooden glazed frame which has been restored to it's original presentation. 60 x 75cm. Apart from being so significant to the Beersheba action this magnificent piece would grace the wall of any Military collection. Major James Lawson DSO MID, 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment received the Distinguished Service Order for the following action at the charge of Beersheba. 1917, whilst attacking the Beersheba trenches and redoubt under heavy rifle and machine gun fire. This officer personally led his squadron at the gallop, jumping the first small Turkish trenches. He immediately dismounted a few yards in front of the second line trench, killing and capturing all the Turks and taking a machine gun. He then led his squadron against a very strong Turkish trench about 9' deep and stronly protected by enemy machine guns and infantry. This trench was rushed and nearly 100 prisoners were killed and captured. "(He was originally recommended for the VC)." Grade II $2500
