The principles in this section are based upon Scripture. Church organization varies from congregation to congregation, and from country to country. Some churches—especially in the west—have organizational structures that are more extensive than the organizational structure described below. Scripture teaches that churches should have elders and deacons. Also, there is a reference to some in the church being pastors--meaning shepherds (Ephesians 4:11). The Old Testament Prophet Jeremiah also spoke of shepherds caring for the people of God (Jeremiah 3:15; 10:21).
