Although Jesus was obedient to civil authority, he did not deny who he was— the Son of God and King of the Jews. His confession resulted in his death on the cross. See Matthew b 27:11. Not only are there legal restraints, there are cultural norms in each society. A missionary must learn what things are appreciated and what things are offensive in a particular culture. It is helpful to read about the political, economic, and religious systems of a particular mission field.
