ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION AS A CORRELATE OF JOB CREATION IN BENUE STATE, NIGERIA (2)
Summary of the Study

The high rate of crime, poverty and other social vices among youth which are traceable to the effect of unemployment necessitated this study. The study focused on the relationship between entrepreneurship education and job creation. Job creation was used as the dependent variable while entrepreneurship education served as the independent variable.

The study was designed to examine the skills undergraduate students acquire after completing an entrepreneurship education course and also to determine the relationship that exist among the entrepreneurship skills of students and their entrepreneurial career intention, self-productivity and poverty alleviation as its purpose. In order to achieve the above objectives, four research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The correlational research design was adopted. Cluster sampling and non-proportional random sampling technique was used to compose a sample of two hundred and twenty five (225) undergraduate students from the three (3) universities in Benue State.

An instrument titled Entrepreneurship Education and Job Creation Questionnaire (EEJCQ) was used for data collection.

The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis. The null hypotheses were tested using simple linear regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance.

The result from the analysis revealed that:



  1. Undergraduate students used for the study have acquired entrepreneurship skills after completing an entrepreneurship education course.

  2. there is a high positive relationship between entrepreneurship skills and career intention

  3. There is a moderate positive relationship between entrepreneurship skills and self-productivity.

  4. There is a high positive relationship between entrepreneurship skills and poverty alleviation.

  5. Entrepreneurship skills significantly influences students career intention for job creation

  6. Entrepreneurship skills significantly influences self-productivity

  7. Entrepreneurship skills significantly influence poverty alleviation through job creation.
