III. Regulations for Health, Safety, and Welfare

    1. Student Emergency Information

When changes occur in the following emergency information, it is important that parents inform the school office by filling out a “Database Information Form” available from the Office:

  • Home address

  • Home telephone number

  • Employment telephone numbers for parents or guardian

  • Persons to notify in the event of an emergency when parent(s)/ guardian(s) cannot be reached

    1. Emergency Closings

Christ the Cornerstone Academy follows the Scotland County Public School procedures for delays and school closings due to weather emergencies.

    1. Emergency Drills

Fire drills are held on a regular basis. When this happens, teachers and students are to walk out quickly and quietly and wait for the signal to return to class. The faculty will give instructions during the first days of school concerning fire drills.

Disaster drills are held twice a year. Guidelines are posted in individual classrooms.

    1. Emergency Care

    1. Health Room Policies

  • Communicable Diseases: In the interest of every child's well being, parents are required to keep their child home when he/she is sick. If a child has symptoms such as elevated temperature (100F), rash, vomiting, or diarrhea, parents are required to keep the child home. If the symptoms develop at school, the child will be held in the health room, and the parents will be notified to pick up the child within the hour. If a child has had a temperature of 100F or has been vomiting, he/she must be free of any fever for 24 hours before returning to school. Students returning to school after an illness lasting three days or more must have a note from the doctor for admission to class.

  • Medications: Students are NOT permitted to carry medications on their person or store them in their possession. All medication must be administered to the student by designated school staff. The parent should obtain a copy of the “Medication Order Form” from the school office. The form should be filled out completely and must be signed. Prescription drugs must be in the pharmacy labeled container. The written instruction on the bottle must correspond with the Order Form. Non‑prescription medications may be administered for one dose only, unless approved by a licensed health practitioner and a note accompanies the medication from the practitioner. Cough drops are available in the classroom. Medications can only be administered during school hours. Students are not to dispense medication to other students. Students dispensing medications to other students may face expulsion.

    1. Care of School Facilities

Students are expected to be good stewards concerning our school facilities. Students who notice that something is broken or in need of repair should report the issue to the school office. Littering is prohibited. All trash should be disposed of in garbage cans. Chewing gum is not permitted on campus at any time ($5.00 fine).

    1. Lost & Found

The school is not responsible for any personal property left in the buildings or on the premises. All sweaters, coats, hats, etc. should be well marked with the name and grade of the student. A Lost and Found area will be maintained. Unclaimed articles are to be brought to the school office. Items are kept for a period of approximately 2 weeks. Items will be disposed of if left after this time.

  1. IV. Home/School Communication

    1. School Office

The school office is located in rooms E7 and E9 . Appointments with the administration should be made through the secretary at 277-0077.

    1. Telephone - usage of school phones

The school phones are business phones and may be used only for emergency calls. Students using the phone should have a signed note. If you need your child to call you for reasons other than an emergency, be sure to supply 50 cents to use the phone. All other calls will be at the discretion of the child’s teacher.
    1. Contacting Teachers

Teachers may be contacted through the school office. Should an emergency arise, staff will assist parents in reaching a teacher. In addition, parents may contact a teacher by sending in a note. Please do not contact teachers at home unless given permission by the individual teacher.

    1. Classroom Visitation

Parents are welcome to visit classes at any time. Please arrange this visit with your child’s teacher ahead of time, if possible. Please report to the school office to sign in and receive your visitor’s pass before proceeding to the classroom area.
    1. Conferences

Conferences with teachers are encouraged and may be made by contacting the individual teacher. There are days set aside for parent/teacher conferences during the school year.

    1. Conflict Resolution

Parents or students wishing to express a concern or complaint should go first to the person directly involved. This process is in accordance with the principles of restoration found in Matthew 18. If the problem is not resolved at this level, a conference should be arranged with the appropriate teacher and administrator.

Friday Folders
Elementary students will bring home a folder each Friday with the work from that previous week. Teachers will also include information about upcoming class and school events in this folder. Parents should take time to go over the work with their young people. Contact individual teachers concerning the updating of class grades and assignments.
