V. Attendance Policies

  1. Absence from School

Follow these procedures if an absence occurs:

  • A note from the parent/guardian is necessary to excuse any absence. The note is required the day the student returns to school.

  • A physician’s note is required for any absence of three (3) or more consecutive days due to illness.

  • Notes for absences should be given to the school office.

  • The school office will verify notes excusing absences, tardies, and early departures. All notes must include the following information: student name, grade, date(s) of absence, reason for absence, parent/guardian work and home numbers, parent/guardian signature.

  • There are only five (5) reasons for school absence which are recognized as excused absences: Personal illness/quarantine, death in the family, professional services in connection with student health and welfare, family emergency, and necessary absences approved in advance by an administrator. Absences for vacations are unexcused.

  • If a student misses 20 days of school in the year, automatic retention may be recommended due to a loss of academic knowledge.

    1. Truancy

A student who is absent from school without lawful cause is considered truant. Truancy (illegal absence from school) and cutting classes are serious infractions and will result in immediate disciplinary actions.

    1. Pre-Arranged Absences

If a student plans to be absent ahead of time, the parent/guardian should notify the school receptionist at least three (3) days in advance, stating the reason for absence (i.e.: doctor’s visits, etc.). Every effort should be made to schedule appointments before or after the school day.
It is then the parent/student’s responsibility to approach their teachers concerning missed work and submit the assignments or make necessary arrangements for missed quizzes and tests before the day of absence.

    1. Late Arrival/Tardiness

It is crucial for parents to get their child to school on time. When a student misses the beginning activities and lessons, it disrupts their learning process. The student is expected to be in the homeroom and seated before 8:00 am so as not to be counted tardy. Between 8:00 and 8:15 am, students should report directly to class. The teacher will count them as tardy. If the student arrives after 8:15, they are to go directly to the school office at the main entrance to sign in and receive a pass to class.

If your child is coming to school late, please have your child bring a note giving the reason for being tardy. Remember that four (4) tardies can equal one (1) absence.

    1. Early Departure

For security and safety reasons, students may not be excused without a note written and signed by the parent or guardian. Notes for early departure from school must be received in the school office by 9:00 that morning. Upon returning, the student must sign in at the school office. Students must enter and exit out of the main entrance only.

  1. VI. School Policies

    1. School Dress Code

All students are expected to be in proper dress at all times on school property. Students should arrive and depart from school in correct dress. The only exceptions are when they have changed for an after-school activity or when they have gone home and returned for an evening activity. Parents may be called when students are not in an appropriate dress. Parents are responsible for sending their children to school with correct dress and grooming.

  • Uniforms will consist of Red or White plain Polo shirts with Khaki pants, shorts, or skirts. No cargo style pants or shorts.

  • Shorts and skirts must be knee length.

  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

  • Sneakers and dress sandals are acceptable, but sports sandals and flip- flops are not. Sandals must have a back-strap or back to them.

  • No slippers or shoes that resemble bedroom slippers may be worn.

  • Shoes must be laced and tied at all times.

  • Girls’ heels must not exceed 2 inches.

  • Boys may not wear earrings.

  • Belts must be worn with pants and shorts, and be visible.

  • Jewelry may be worn in moderation.

  • Body piercing is prohibited.

  • Undershirts must be completely white with no words, emblems, or designs.

  • Hair may not be dyed in an unnatural hair color.

  • Boys hair must be above the eyebrows, and collar length or shorter.

(continued)

  • Students may not have partially shaved heads.

  • Students may not have shaved lines, designs, or numbers in their hair.

  • Male students may not have ponytails, tails, or dreadlocks.

  • No hats or hoods are allowed at any time.

    1. Transportation

Parents are responsible for the transportation of their children to and from CTCA. Parents are encouraged to form car pools with other families.

    1. Visitors

All family members and visitors must obtain a pass from the school office upon entering the school. Students who desire to bring a friend to school must receive approval from the principal at least one day in advance.
