Don’t Miss the Model of William’s Ships

Start in the courtyard, where you will view a model of the ships William and his army built in Bayeux to traverse the English Channel and retake the English crown. As you view the tapestry, look for the portrayal of William’s horses aboard these boats.

First Time Seeing the Tapestry

Once you are inside the museum, there are three main areas to view, all highly interesting. On the ground floor is the 11^th century Bayeux Tapestry, very old and extremely fragile, yet retaining much of the vivid color of the original. You will be able to examine the tapestry up close, displayed behind glass for protection. Use the audio guide commentary to hear the saga as you move past each of the 58 scenes along the tapestry’s length.
