9.7Software


The Real Time software has been developed more or less along the standards of Software Development. Still certain software blocks that are essential for a final product are missing, like the “Built in Test”. This block and others are part of the work that has to be done towards the validation of the radar.

A great deal of effort has been also spent in the development of tools for data collection and analysis. Without them, the debugging of a radar is virtually impossible. Today we enjoy a suite of tools that allow not only developing the algorithms but also debugging the software and the hardware of the radar.


9.8Algorithms


The radar algorithms developed for this FLR are of the most advanced that can be found even in military applications. The reason that they have developed, layer over layer, from very simple and straightforward algorithms to a full fledged suite is that the environment of an automotive FLR is very complicated and varied and full of man made objects. Today we can show superior performance compared with existing radars and still we need to multiply the data collection and analysis effort by a factor of 5 to 10 to reach the level of performance required by a product to be sold to the final customer.

9.9Development Roadmap and Market Penetration Strategy


Densetraffic has reached its conclusion, but the development of RoadEye’s FLR continues. RoadEye’s roadmap to the industrialization of the FLR is shown in the next page where the main tasks are depicted until preproduction.

It is our belief that the technologies developed during Densetraffic are going to give fruits in due time. It is clear that the market growth is much slower than predicted and therefore the numbers of FLR’s sold per year do not warrant further investments.

Our market penetration strategy consists on the following:


  1. Present a superior FLR at cost equal or slightly less than current systems.

  2. Concentrate on the truck and heavy vehicle market that although smaller, could have a much higher penetration due to the incurred costs of accidents.

  3. Expand the low cost RF solution to other applications, like 77 GHz short range radars, in order to increase the number of RF transceivers produced per year.

  4. Agressive marketing.

9.10 Conclusion of the Conclusions


The DenseTraffic project has allowed the partners of this consortium to develop a wide range of technologies necessary to develop an FLR for ACC application that has the required performance at a low cost. As usual in development projects, we have solved a number of engineering problems and reached the desired goal, to realize that a new goal appears in the horizon.

At last Fig. 15 shows the FLR and Fig.16 the FLR integrated in a test vehicle.
