When the family chain is broken, And loved ones forced to part,

of Len and devoted Aunt of Robert and Greg.
MARTIN (Baker) Gwendoline May -
My loved sister,
You walked with the love of your family,
You talked with the love on your face,
Your time on this earth, though conditional,
You faced it with love and with grace,
You impacted onto so many,
With a charm no one could deny,
My thoughts will be with you forever,
''Granny'' I love you, good bye - Loving sister Elaine and Len.
MARTIN (Baker) Gwendoline May -
Only devoted and loved Aunty of Robert.
A life made beautiful by kindly deeds,
A helping hand for others needs,
Big was her heart,
Her friendship true,
Loved and respected by all she knew.
Courageous to the end
MARTIN (Baker) Gwendoline May -
We seldom ask for miracles Lord,
But today just one would do,
To leave our front door open,
And see our Gwennie walk through,

Renee's Tribute to Gwennie at the funeral service.
I would just like to say a few words on behalf of Michael and I. First of all, you all know 11 years ago Michael and I lost our mother, but gained not just a loving, caring grandmother that cared for us through thick and thin, but gained a loving, caring second mother, that we loved so dearly.
I saw Nan before and after she had passed away, and I was even strong enough to help dress her. What helped me through that hard time was she looked so beautiful and peaceful, and to know she was finally free of pain. So now we just need to keep our heads up high, and it was such an honour and still is to know our loving, caring Nan.
So Nan this is our last good bye and we love you heaps, and thank you so much for everything.

OBITUARY
Gwendoline May Martin
October 31, 1934 - July 24, 1998
An air of sadness fell over the Berrigan and Finley towns and the surrounding districts, with the sad news of the passing of Gwendoline May Martin, who passed away on July 24, 1998 at Finley Hospital, after a long illness.
A very large number of people gathered at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Finley on July 28, 1998 at 2 PM for her funeral.
Gwen was born at Wyangla Dam, near Cowra, on October 31, 1934, to her parents Edna and Jum Baker. Her early childhood years were spent living in Sydney NSW, Cowra and Mulwala. In March 1940, the family moved to the Finley district, with the construction of the Mulwala Channel.
Gwen completed her schooling in Finley and gained employment at the Finley Chemists, from 1950 to 1957, with the late Bruce Hill.
On February 9, 1957, Gwen married Jack Martin, in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Finley and they had two children, Lil and Shaun.
They lived in Finley until the early 1960's, when they moved to Berrigan to begin their fuel business. A few years later they extended their business to Finley.
Gwen and Jack were also involved in the channel cleaning business, for many years, and more recently they ventured into the quarrying industry. Over the last twelve months, Jack had devoted more time looking after Gwen.
Gwen had a profound faith, and connections with both Anglican churches in Finley and Berrigan. She taught Sunday school in Finley in the 1950's and religious instruction at the Finley High school and Berrigan Public school in the 1970's. From the early 1980's to 1996, when ill health prevented her from doing so, she was a pastoral assistant at St Aidan's Berrigan, and also a Synod Representative with Frank Atkinson. She served on St Aidan's district committee and also parish council and was a past treasurer. At St Aidan's from 1980 to 1995, Gwen played a pivotal roll in the life of the parish.
Her faith extended to one and all, her kindness, thoughtfulness and unselfishness was known by all those she helped in her life time.
Over the years, Gwen was also involved with The Finley Younger set, Finley Red Cross, Berrigan Community Choir, Berrigan Swimming Pool and Berrigan Library.
Gwen's love and bond with her family was very strong, she raised two generations and loved them both, more than anyone could ever know.
She always had a smile for everyone, even at the saddest times in her life and definitely she made the world a better place, and we are the better for knowing her.
Gwen was a pleasure to know, and always a lady and indeed, what an extraordinary lady who will be sadly missed
'' All that I owe her, time can not measure,
All that she gave me, out weighs earthly treasure,
Knowledge of God and good and of true honour,
For these and love beside, blessings be upon her''
The Church service was conducted jointly by Father John Gibson and Father Tas Papas. The cortege proceeded to the Anglican portion of Finley General Cemetery, where she was laid to rest.

A ROCKY outcrop over looking Berrigan racecourse is the source of 216 tonnes of granite for the restoration of the walls of St Mathews Church, Albury.
Mr Jack Martin, quarry-master, has begun extracting the granite in 10 tonne blocks and should have it all to the stone masons within three months.
''We have already spudded in, cut the first block and broken it down to manageable bricks'', he said, indicating his enthusiasm for the work. Mr Martin and a helper are using bone jarring techniques with tungsten-tipped drills rather than explosives to ensure that even the finest hairline fracturing does not weaken the rock.
It will take 12 hours of drilling128 holes in a stitching pattern (one hole abutting the next) to excavate each block and reduce it to bricks. The Altona North stonemasons, Abbey Stone Restoration, will chisel into shape and place on site.
Mr Martin, with 25 years experience in quarrying, suggested using the Berrigan granite when supplies from the pit in the Black range, above Albury, from where the original stone was quarried , became unavailable.
He recently extracted the sandstone to be used in the Church's window surrounds from a quarry at Table Top. To satisfy those concerned that the Berrigan granite would be suitable for colour and texture, he sliced a huge block from the top face of the quarry. It revealed a pinkish tinge that, after weathering, will match up very well with the existing stone.
Eight years ago, Mr Martin took a 10 year lease of the 30 ha block of land where the quarry is located after discovering the quality of the granite. It is at leased 300 m deep. He named the stone Berrigan May, for his wife.
The St Mathews job will be the first from the quarry. Mr Martin, a motor mechanic by trade who went to Berrigan 27 years ago, learned quarrying from Mr Ted Hudson, whose family had one of the best -known stone masonry businesses in Australia.
Mr Martin has hired local labour for the demanding job of drilling. He is not perturbed about how much he will have to do himself. He is something like granite himself. He drilled the sandstone at Table Top with a splintered shin bone in one leg and a damaged cartilage in the other.
