4.7.1
Cycle times
(1) The cycle time of a software application is dependent on the complexity of the process control system in question, its size (how many devices and instruments) and on the CPU being used. It
may
be necessary that larger or more complex system require a more powerful (and faster) CPU. Generally, a control system application developed using this software module library
shall
have a cycle time of less than 100 ms. To achieve this, a series of metrics
shall
be included with the documentation to indicate which CPU is best suited to a particular application (this shall be in terms of IO count and a quantifiable measure of the complexity of the application.
4.7.2
Memory capacity
(1) The Simatic Controllers all accept memory cards of various sizes, these range from
4 MB to 32 GB, a minimum size of memory card
will
be specified (this
will
be sufficient to hold the full contents of the library and all its embedded documentation.
(2) A series of metrics shall be included with the documentation to indicate the memory card size best suited to a particular application (this shall be in terms of IO count and a quantifiable measure of the complexity of the application)

Network arrangements
(1) The communication network arrangements for CPU to CPU and CPU to supervisory system
will
be based around Ethernet TCP/IP
17
and
will
used fixed IP addressing for devices.
(2) Remote IO communication
will
use Profinet
18
networks (Profinet uses ISO industrial Ethernet) or ProfiBus DP
20
networks.
4.7.4
Input/output rack arrangements
(1) The control systems
will
support a central rack
21
equipped with any of the Siemens
Simatic ET200MP range of IO modules.
(2) The control system
will
support remote (or distributed) IO racks, these
will
be either
Profinet or ProfiBus based where the application in question has no preference (i.e. there is no specific requirement fora particular type of remote IO, Profinet
shall
be used.
(3) It
will
be permissible to connect devices directly to Profinet and ProfiBus networks where such devices have the correct form of interface (for example, an inverter with a
Profinet interface.
17
TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol — this is the standard arrangement for Ethernet communications (used widely inmost business and office environments.
18
Profinet (Process Field Net) is an Ethernet base communication network suitable for industrial applications, it is used to operate field instruments and devices. ISO (International Standards Organisation) industrial Ethernet is Ethernet communication based on MAC (media access control) addresses (these are hardware addresses built into Ethernet devices, ISO Ethernet is both faster and more secure than TCP/IP Ethernet.
20
ProfiBus DP (Process Field Bus, distributed peripheral) is a serial communication network suitable for industrial applications, it is used to operate field instruments and devices. A central rack is the rack that holds the Controller CPU.

(4) Remote IO
may
be of any type produced or supported by Siemens Simatic, the system
shall
support all the common types of Simatic IO, these being

ET200MP Standard IO high density IO for the S range

ET200M Standard IO high density IO for the S range, can be used as remote IO for the S

ET200SP Low density, high flexibility IO used exclusively as remote IO

ET200iSP Intrinsically safe version of the ET200SP range

ET200PRO Low density IP rated field mounted remote IO for use externally to control panels
