CER 13283 Safety Case Guidelines
(the) General Duty
The duty placed on petroleum undertakings by section K of the Act, being the duty to ensure that a) any petroleum activity is carried on in such a manner as to reduce any risk to safety to a level that is As Low As is Reasonably Practicable (ALARP); and b) any petroleum infrastructure is designed, constructed, installed, maintained, modified, operated and decommissioned in such a manner as to reduce any risk to safety to a level that is ALARP.

The recognised risk management practices and measures that are used by competent organisations to manage well- understood hazards arising from their activities.
(the) Guidelines
The Safety Case Guidelines prepared by the CER under section L of the Act relating to the preparation and appropriate contents of safety cases for petroleum undertakings. The Safety Case Guidelines, as amended from time to time, form part of the Framework.
