Group 8 kicked off our segment of the Rally in Montgomery, Alabama. In Montgomery we went to the Zoo that is new to the city and is located at Martin Lake. This zoo has animals from over 5 different continents. Our group’s favorite was the giant Panda. But Fallon really fell for the giraffes. When it was time to go, Fallon wouldn’t leave because she said she wanted to adopt an 18-foot giraffe. Andrew told her it wouldn’t fit in the car, and the Zookeepers actually had to explain to Fallon that she couldn’t keep him. Good thing he wouldn’t fit into her pocket!
After the zoo we voted to go to the Museum of Fine Arts, which is the oldest fine arts museum in Alabama. It is known for its holdings of 19th and 20th Century American paintings. The pictures were nice, but we were pretty tired after that, so we waved goodbye to Alabama.
Our next stop was Atlanta, Georgia! First we went to the Atlanta Cyclorama. It’s a Civil War museum where you could see the world’s largest painting, “ The Battle of Atlanta.” What an awful, and bloody battle! The painting made it all look heroic, but most of us felt pretty sick after looking at it.
We moved on to see Martin Luther King Jr’s. birthplace and where he lived early in his life. What an amazing man! And what a terrible loss to the whole world when he died.
Next we went to Columbia, South Carolina, and saw the King Tut-Ankh-Amun Museum. We actually saw real mummies from ancient Egypt! It was really cool! At least it was until we realized Phillip was missing. Connor followed his hunch and found Phillip asleep inside a sarcophagus! Mrs. Mussack was so angry she actually considered Corin’s idea of mummifying him. But then she figured she’d have a hard time explaining it to Phillip’s mom, so we woke him up and continued on.
