Premises

Remove door threshold as getting in to surgery is very difficult when using a mobility scooter or wheelchair (Chaddesden)


Extraction fan for toilets (Chaddesden)
Move to a new medical centre with off road access to motor transport and parking facilities, the road outside is a motor thoroughfare and a ‘death trap’ (Chaddesden)
Larger car park spaces should be marked for disabled and parent and child parking (Spondon)
Better things, e.g. books etc to keep small children entertained when there’s a long wait (Both)
Better colour in the waiting room / consulting rooms – more cheery colours, all very grey and dull (Both)
Music in the waiting room sometimes instead of the TV (Both)
Better more eye catching health education information – maybe a different topic each month (Both)
Whole surgery training days for GP’s / Nurses and surgery “awareness” to demonstrate this knowledge to patients via posters or TV DVD’s (Both)
Telephone

Sometimes get cut off when telephoning and have to keep ringing back


Not use an expensive ‘08’ number that patients have to use to get an appointment
Don’t like the ‘0844’ phone number – preferred ‘01332’ contact number
Phone service a bit expensive to call from a mobile
Have a free phone contact number – to call the surgery from a mobile is very expensive
A non premium telephone number
Nothing could be improved except phoning for an appointment
Get rid of ‘0844’ number, especially as can’t always get through – would rather get an engaged signal than have to pay for a recorded message telling me I can’t be connected
Improve telephone waiting times when ringing to make an appointment
Auto phone answer services are probably efficient but are impersonal and irritating to use, could this be improved?
Get rid of the ‘0844’ number and replace with ‘01332’ – puts me off having to see the doctor having to spend nearly £1 to call from mobile
Make easier on contacting surgery by telephone
Usually book online – very good service but dislike intensely the phone service – would prefer it to be engaged than present expensive system
I am not a fan of phoning up at 8.30am and making an appointment for the same day, sometimes having to hang on the phone for quite a while, which is expensive if you are on a mobile - also I have not been able to get in on the same day as an evening appointment even when I have phoned at 8.30am on the dot
I have stated telephone access poor in regards to appointments, whereas access at other times of the day is good. It is still difficult at 8.00am as one has to ring about 30 seconds to eight to listen to instructions / music in order to be near the front of the queue to make an appointment. Any later and appointments for a particular doctor are unavailable – perhaps a few appointments could be accessed the day before or a couple of days earlier (fortnightly appointments go very quickly)
The use of premium phone number is something which concerns me – I am on a limited income and have to think twice before ringing you due to the cost

Appointments

Please make more later appointments available online, i.e. after 10.00am


Make booking appointments easier for people who work outside of 9 to 5 hours, i.e. more pre bookable appointments for late morning / early evening
Allow patients to make an appointment by phone in advance to see a particular doctor – phoning at 8.00am on the morning a patient needs to see a doctor doesn’t always result in an appointment
I would like to make a later appointment in advance instead of doing it on the day you want it – you can only get early appointments in advance
Give better service to people like me who work out of town and need an appointment in the week not in 24 hours
More appointment pre-bookable in general
More appointment available online at shorter notice
Have 2 slots, those for repeat prescriptions and those for general illness – when mixed together in the day very frustrating waiting for long periods of time, i.e.1/2 if you need a fit note or new prescription
Would help to be able to discuss several issues to get support with a variety of health issues, Doctors appointments are short and for one problem only
The on-line system for booking appointments becomes available at midnight – could it become available slightly earlier?
Make it easier to make an appointment with doctor of choice


Reception

Sometimes reaction from receptionists could be improved, it’s not the patients fault if the surgery is very busy and they are in demand

Sometimes when attending the surgery the reception staff act as if you are invisible and just leave you standing around until they are ready to acknowledge you are there

You are not always greeted on arrival when using the self check-in
Reception staff ask medical questions without right qualifications and for all public to hear
Receptionists are efficient and friendly
Overall customer service by reception staff is terrible
Even if receptionist is busy, to acknowledge a patient waiting by a simple “won’t be a minute” would be nice sometimes
Take more care when talking to patients about prescriptions and other enquiries
Reception staff need to take more care and listen to patients needs

One of the receptionists is a bit brusque. When I bring in a sputum sample she holds it up with one finger and pulls a face, not very nice, it’s bad enough having to bring them in without being made to feel worse but you have chosen well with all the other receptionists, X is a star and a credit to the practice
I find X on reception to be extremely helpful and friendly, which makes you feel relaxed when visiting the GP can be worrying
Some of the reception staff telephone and face to face manner can be unwelcoming and somewhat short

Clinical

The blood test service has on several occasions failed to get blood resulting in referral to REVIVE – practice should ask for experienced nurses to be sent to provide this service


Trying to keep appointments to near booked time
First appointment of the day should be on time or an explanation given
All doctors come out and greet their patients
My wider family has been with this practice for years – over this time different doctors have failed to diagnose various medical conditions in different family members – early diagnosis and treatment is essential for all these diagnosis’s
Ensure continuity with same doctor
Post blood results on site? How about blood sugar results (I am diabetic) in some sort of graph giving a trend? This would spare the need to phone up for the results or at the very least a note on this site to say the results are now ready
At recent appointment doctor tasked secretary with contacting patient, it never happened
Not to hurry patients
Not buzzing another patient before I have had a chance to put my son’s trousers back on
You don’t get warmth from Dr X, if I had I would think I was being given bad news. Dr X has always been my GP here, so must be OK, can be a bit grumpy sometimes but they have a lot to put up with. Dr X is a very good doctor
Always very happy with the way the doctor / nurse listen’s to my problems

Could not improve in any way – Dr X was absolutely wonderful. What a nice man, he makes you feel better by just talking to him

I’m impressed with the way Dr X has diagnosed and treated me so fast but after recent visits to other doctors it’s taken 3 appointments to be diagnosed properly but after seeing and getting a satisfactory result from Dr X my family shall continue to see him. He is really an asset to your firm, as I’ve had 2 life threatening illnesses and am confident of getting a fast result if ill again
It took 20 years to diagnose me with fibromyalgia
Scripts

Double check prescriptions before printing. I have had the wrong bread ordered several times that Boots cannot change. Boxes of 8 fresh loaves require freezer space, I always put down fresh or part baked!

Miscellaneous

The practice telephoned me on the Friday evening as the results of a blood test were low. Unfortunately the results I received were not accurate, they were someone else’s – an error at the haematology department. The doctors service was excellent although stressful due to inaccurate results


Didn’t know there is an option to ask for medical information without an appointment
The technology implemented over the last year (online appointments and checking in) makes the surgery stress free to visit
Although I didn’t see a doctor / nurse today, I always find them friendly and helpful and willing to spend time with me to resolve my problems
I am very happy. When I hear from friends about their surgeries, I realise how lucky we are to be in this practice
I cannot make any comment really as I consider the whole process quite exceptional
