Fourth Grade News

Thank you to all who came and viewed our “Famous Missourian Wax Museum”. We had well over 100 parents, family, and friends attend. WOW! The kids did an awesome job and all their hard work really showed. We are so proud of them. They really enjoyed their Missouri Day Feast, as well. Thank you to all the parents that helped out by sending in the necessary items, you are greatly appreciated.

This month we will be starting many different things. In Math, we will be working on Patterns & Expressions. Please continue to study and memorize the multiplication facts with your child. These are vital to their success in Math. In Missouri History, we will continue with our study of Missouri, start our ABC notebook project, and be learning of our state symbols. In Reading, we will continue working on our comprehension skills, fluency, and other basic reading skills. Try to read with your child each night for 15 minutes. In Science, we will begin our study of the Earth’s History. We will be exploring rocks, fossils, and learning how they are formed.

As many of you already know, we will be going to the Arch for our field trip. This year it is scheduled for January 27th, 2012. The total cost of the trip this year is $7.50. We will start collecting money soon and deposit it into our trip account. Please be sure to send in the permission slips and money by December 9th. Thank you and Have a Great Thanksgiving.

The students have also been assigned new AR goals to work towards. In social studies we are currently on Unit 3. This unit is over the thirteen colonies. We are working on
division in math. In science, students are still working on the unit containing life science. We will be starting ecosystems and learning about the water cycle.

October was a busy month with all classes participating in drug free activities and lessons.  November is already here and will go by quickly.  Our character word for this month is honest.  Please remind your child(ren) about the importance of being honest.  Please feel free to stop by or call if you need assistance with anything!  Enjoy your Thanksgiving break!

Librarian’s Tales

The Book Fair was out-of-this-world!! I want to thank all the students and parents who supported it. I also want to extend my gratitude to some special volunteers: Deanna Dell, Amelia Buford, Nakia Dement, Joyce Pyles, Cody Hampton, Elizabeth Homeyer, Darian Lovell, Courtney Gore, Ceclie Goodman, Holly Baysinger, Cassie Crocker, Mrs. Bouma, and Derek Brewer. Without your help, we couldn’t have done it! Thanks for all you do. I also want to congratulate our students and their families on a job well done in regards to our AREA 51 museum. It was a huge success! I was very impressed with all the creative ideas that were exhibited! We had 39 UFOs! Finally, on behalf of our teachers I want to thank all the families that donated to our classroom wish lists. What great way to support reading in the classroom! Thanks again for all your help!

I will close with a Book Talk provided by Scholastic called Judy Moody: Girl Detective, by Megan McDonald. If you are going to solve a big-time mystery, what would you need in your crime solving kit? Flashlight (check), notebook (check), pencil (check), magnifying glass (check), zip-top bag (check), lipstick (check) – Judy packs these items and a few more as she sets out to be the world’s best mystery-solving club, Judy is determined to figure out what happened to Mr. Chips, a police dog. His kennel is in a completely fenced backyard. The gate is locked. The dog food is untouched. Would Mr. Chips have left without eating?

Check out this book and others as some great winter reading!
